The best bits of Mumsnet

What are your favourite bits?

I think it’s great when people post things to poke fun at the competitive under eaters. Usually in the form of:

“Valerie dropped by last night and, honestly, she brought a whole box of Celebrations! I still have Roses from last Christmas in the cupboard that I’ll never get through. I had one to be polite but I couldn’t finish my dinner after all the sugar. I don’t know how people do it!”

OP posts:

I think you'd enjoy the mumsnet AIBU podcast. I listened to it again today - always makes me laugh.

When there's a thread with a fun premise and posters really get on board eg the socialist Easter egg hunts.

Or when the haikus start appearing.

Or when a new catchphrase CANCEL THE CHEQUE is born.

Sometimes plain old language mistakes/malapropisms are quite entertaining. Putting someone on a pedal stool for example.

The cat threads obviously!

Sorry to change the tone but my absolute favourite is where a seemingly innocuous AIBU post is gently revealed to the OP to be a horribly abusive relationship and develops into fabulous women supporting her to find freedom. I love those.

Ghost stories for sure.

I've started to notice a poster lately who posts really funny replies to the most mundane threads. Eg AIBU to eat a grape before I pay for them?
Funny poster - I wouldn't op I know someone who did that once and they spontaneously combusted right there in the fruit & veg aisle.
Always makes me smile.

In truth, it is the kindness shown by so many, in taking time to help complete strangers.
There are so many bits of help and advice given on here day in, day out.

Yes, I like the entertainment too, but I just love the fact there are so many people who share their knowledge to help others.

I think there’s a lot of kindness here that people outside of MN don’t see because it’s just a nest of vipers to them. I’ve had a lot of support over the years when I’ve needed it. I really like having a predominately female space in general as well.
