In law support thread

It’s the end of the bank holiday weekend, and we have all survived a long weekend with the in laws.

My in laws are lovely, but my MIL always comments on what I eat, which is very soul destroying. So the highlights of my weekend include:

”it’s unlike you to say no to chocolate”, after I turned down eating more Easter egg because I simply didn’t feel like any.

Serving me a very small portion of food for dinner, with DH getting a man sized portion of course, and then when I went for more after finishing my plate - “I knew AndBreathe would want more lasagna so I made extra”

The next day when I had finished and my small portion of food was enough and filled me up - “if you carry on eating like this you will be stick thin in weeks”

After telling me that she hadn’t made dessert that evening as we had probably had enough sweet cakes throughout the day, “but you please go to the kitchen AndBreathe and help yourself to whatever you want”.

Serving me my own baguette of garlic bread, just for me, because she knows I like garlic bread.

I’m confident in my body - I’m a size 10/12 but with flab rather than tone. But her comments always leave me feeling like a greedy pig after a visit! And no, she’s not exactly slim and toned herself!

Arrrgggghh. . . I feel your pain.

You feel she's not trying to be passive aggressive? It's just her being nice in her own unique way? That's so hard!

Honestly, I don’t know. I start off thinking she is being kind and hospitable but then some of the comments feel like they are PA and a dig at me!

Anyone else want to share their in law (or own family!) stories from this weekend?
