Seriously overeaten for a few days - when does it turn into extra pounds?

I’m usually pretty good - and that’s the only way I can maintain an oK weight - I’m post menopausal and I find it really hard to lose weight.

anyway, last few days I’ve eaten so much rubbish - loads of family and friends gathering. A few thousand extra cals today, at least. Same other days.

now I feel really upset with myself and worried that I will pile on the pounds.

obviously tomorrow I will be healthy again, but am I looking at a lot of weight gain?

No judgment please!

You have had a fun time over Easter. Enjoy the memories. Chill about the weight. You can catch up with that.

AutisticLegoLover · 10/04/2023 20:16

Easter eating doesn't count 😁 just cut back a little over the next week and it will even out. My usual eating restarts tomorrow along with my usual holiday time exercise. It'll be fine. Life's too short not to enjoy the holidays.

It’s so fucking hard post menopausally though! I used to be able to skip a meal and regain balance but not now.

I know it sounds sad - I appreciate you all telling me to chill

+3500 calories will be 1 pound on.

If it was a temporary thing then any weight gain will be temporary and you should be back to normal weight once you've been eating your usual diet a couple of weeks or so. I know I've been scoffing like a hungry thing in hungry town this last 4 days but come tomorrow there's nothing left I'm back on my usual 1500 calories per day so any excess should go quickly. Got long walks planned too!!

Besttobe8001 · 10/04/2023 20:19

You can overeat more than you think without gaining weight if it's a one off. If the scales are off tomorrow it'll likely be salt or water retention. Weigh yourself in 5 days or so after normal eating and you'll be back to normal.

Qbish · 10/04/2023 20:19

Losing weight is a stepladder, not a slide. As @AutisticLegoLover says, it will all even out.

gloov · 10/04/2023 20:20

To gain one pound you need to eat around 3500 excess calories.

If you suddenly carb load, the rest will be water weight.

I am 56 btw

Crushmonsters · 10/04/2023 20:21

So basically, having eaten +3000 or more for 3/4 days, I'm looking at several pounds over? Uggghhhh

No judgement here OP. Who hadn't eaten or drank more than they should at one time or another? Who hasn't slacked off now and again? The important thing is - did you enjoy spending your long weekend with family and friends? Did you make some lovely memories? Those are the things you'll hold onto - any extra calories or pounds can be dealt with in the coming days or weeks and will be forgotten soon enough.

Crushmonsters · 10/04/2023 20:23

I did enjoy most of it - but I hate myself when I eat like this. It feels like gorging, as if I'm a bottomless pit

OP even if you've eaten 3500 calories a day for the past few days that doesn't mean you will gain a pound for each day you've done it! You need to consume + 3500 over your maintenance calories to gain a pound, and as has been said previously if you go back to eating normally now any potential wait gain will only be temporary! Don't stress about it - it sounds like you've had a lovely Easter!

Qbish · 10/04/2023 20:25

CHIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLL!!!!!!!

Enjoy the time you had. You had a lovely Easter, by the sounds of it.

Crushmonsters · 10/04/2023 20:29

I'm not chilled, I know. I've got a shit relationship with food and weight

Well just for this one day, enjoy the time you spent with loved one over Easter and know that tomorrow is another day.
