Is this rude?

Friend had a small gathering this weekend and she wanted to make two batches of cocktails, she uses a blender and so I offered to bring mine too so she could make both batches at the same time (as she complained it was a faff to make one lot, wash up and then make a second) - she accepted.

Brought it over, I came before everyone else to help her and she seemed to be really annoyed that the blender I’d brought was brand new (I’d bought ages ago not recently) and she seemed to snap tbh and said that there’s no point opening it if it’s new.

I was a bit taken aback and said I didn’t mind but she still said no. I said would you like me to put the box away so it’s not in the way in her under stairs cupboard. And she just told me to leave it at the front door so I wouldn’t forget it.

So I brought this big box in a taxi there and back for no reason at all.

I dont know about rude, not sure about blender etiquette but certainly very odd. Why didn't you just open it and crack on?

memyselfi · 10/04/2023 19:31

She was being weird .

Would that not have been weird? She said no, I said I didn’t mind, she said no again, so surely weird for me to unpack it at that point.

How bizarre, did she explain why? What did she think was wrong with using a new blender?

embarrassed23 · 10/04/2023 20:26

She was acting very strangely. How odd to be annoyed at you for that! To be honest though if I were you I would have removed the blender from the big unopened box and transported it another way though just for ease

Lifesagamethentheytaketheboardaway · 10/04/2023 20:32

Was it because she would have to wash it before use? Therefore making the whole ‘avoiding having to wash one’ point moot?

She didn’t want to have to wash up a blender, you brought a new one still in the box which would need washing.

tailinthejam · 10/04/2023 20:38

Ah I see what's happened here. She thought you were playing the "Mine is better than yours" game.

It’s a blender … a cheap one from Amazon or Aldi. I can’t even remember.

Why would anyone assume someone is playing that game with a blender?

Really odd. Unless she was thinking it would need washing before use?

SilverPeacock · 10/04/2023 20:43

Very odd behaviour

MaccyD100 · 10/04/2023 20:57

Very odd. The only thing I can think of is that she imagined you turning up with a blender you were completely familiar with and cracking on with making the cocktail. Once she saw it was still in the box she thought you'd both have to look at the instructions, work out how to use it etc. And it felt like a faff.

PuppyMonkey · 10/04/2023 21:02

This is a good one. Grin

CrystalMaisie · 10/04/2023 21:18

I would assume because it would need unwrapping from packaging and washing up, more trouble than it was worth when she could more easily wash up the one she was already using.

Yes this I would say.

Even it did, so what? It’d only take a few mins to do.

Yes this. Bringing a blender like that wasn't really helping her. It was easier to use the one she had, twice. I think it would have been better to remove your blender from the box and wash it before bringing it round tbh. And also to make sure you knew how to use it. I guess you could have done all that at her house too though, is that what you were planning? Anyway, from her POV it obviously seemed like a lot of hassle.

cheapskatemum · 10/04/2023 23:03

I've had several blenders over the years. The "know how to use it" argument is baffling me. You put stuff in, replace the lid & turn it on.

CurlewKate · 10/04/2023 23:06

How hard can it be to work out how to use a blender?

Dishwasherdisaster · 10/04/2023 23:15

Still, taking it out of the box and washing it was probably harder than just washing the one she had.
I got a new toaster recently and did spend a couple of minutes reading the instructions I have to say 😂

Isthatascratchonmygrandmother · 10/04/2023 23:20

I'm annoyed because we'll never know her reasoning. If it were me I'd have asked on the spot 'what's up with you? Get it open and get blending' sort of thing. I would have needed to know why she was being weird. She'd have had to tell me. 🤣🤣 just flipping open it woman!!

Isthatascratchonmygrandmother · 10/04/2023 23:22

But in the same vein I wouldn't have offered her a blender because it wasn't a solution that was required in my opinion. I'd have been just has baffled that washing a blender to prepare a second batch of cocktail was troubling to anyone. It takes seconds to rinse.

Well it was your friend that had an issue when you produced a new one, so maybe she thought there was some one-upmanship going on, I dunno.
