The Dalai Lama 'can you suck my tongue'

A video is going round of the Dalai Lama asking a young boy to suck his tongue. I kind of wish I hadn't watched it because now I feel a bit queasy!

He's released a statement saying 'A video clip has been circulating that shows a recent meeting when a young boy asked His Holiness the Dalai Lama if he could give him a hug. His Holiness wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused.

His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras. He regrets the incident.'

Interesting that it’s only being reported by Indian media.

Its in most newspapers now
I keep coming across the video on twitter and have to scroll past it quickly. It's sickening.

Death is the only way to be kicked out of this job

Yes, well maybe it’s time for this to change. After all, these things always evolve when it suits.

TheVanguardSix · 10/04/2023 11:07

Et tu, Dalai Lama?

DangerNoodles · 10/04/2023 11:08

Dirty old pervert. There is no innocent explanation for that, he's only sorry he was caught.

Gigantasaurus · 10/04/2023 11:09

No apology can forgive what he did.

I wondered how long before the apologists came along.

Hopefully you wont ever have to try to manage an elderly relative with dementia who suddenly becomes sexually inappropriate

I have no idea if that is the issue here, given he doesnt seem to have public form for it, it does seem out of character, but people with dementia suddenly can become incredibly inappropriate in a number of ways and its very distressing to deal with

Actually my father in law is at times. But he’s in a home and not out on the world stage being exposed to children.

Well, I’d start by creating a safe space between him and any children. Not letting him alone with them and make sure that an adult was close by to step in with anything inappropriate.

I wouldn’t allow a young child to be that close, while standing by and watching 🤷‍♀️

Smokingonthestairs · 10/04/2023 11:23

Revolting but unsurprising.

And quite right, but presumably his behavior had to be seen, noticed, assessed before it was clear that there was something wrong.

This may or may not be that. And I agree with others that if he isnt capable of the 'job', then he must stand down but of course that isnt the nature of the role.

tescocreditcard · 10/04/2023 11:24

I expect it's dementia too. 1 in 6 people that age have it. Certain medications are also known for having side effects that cause inappropriate sexual behaviour.

How is asking someone to suck his tongue "teasing in a playful innocent way"?! That's no defence and doesn't even sound remotely true.

Yes I agree, if that is indeed the diagnosis or problem and we wouldnt know this. On the other hand he could be simply abusive and the solution is much the same, shouldnt be around children

Im simply correcting someone above who seems to imply that its 'apologetic' to mention that it could be dementia. When someone starts acting socially inappropriately and this is out of character for them you need to consider it, its part of the diagnostic process.

And as I said before, then he should be kept away from children and other adults should be close by to step in when needed.

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 11:28

Disgusting man. Always thought there was something off about him.

HRTQueen · 10/04/2023 11:36

its disturbing

caught out forgetting the cameras are on him is likely a man in his position will be completely protected this is the issue this shouldn’t be it allows abuse to thrive and become normalised

Religious pervy old man? Shocker, that's something new!

Glad they're being caught one at a time.

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 11:50

He's literally there assaulting a child in plain view of everyone and nobody is doing anything. Gave me the chills. It's like what happened with Jimmy Saville, they hide in plain sight, using their status and power. Nobody should ever be above suspicion. We build these 'idols' up so much that we're not allowed to question them because they are doing so much good. Nobody is fully good or bad and its dangerous to put anyone on a pedestal and let the getaway with things an ordinary person wouldn't have got away with.

Duckskitbank · 10/04/2023 11:54

I inadvertently saw the video on twitter. It’s vile, he’s clearly an abuser. The confidence he shows whilst abusing a child just shows how easily he thinks he can get away with it. Fucking nonce.

Clementineorsatsuma · 10/04/2023 11:56

Doesn't anyone remember when he said a female could only be Dalai Lama if she were attractive?
He's long shown his true colours tbh.

unclebuck · 10/04/2023 11:59

He's been known for horrific behaviour around children for a long time.
