If you have a paid pet sitter who's a friend of a friend and she locks herself out, then calls a locksmith who has to drill a hole in the door to get her back in, who pays for the repair and new lock? Her or the owner of the pet and the door?

Fault with door - owner

Fault of person - them

The petsitter

If you’re doing paid pet sitting work (as I do) you need to make damn sure you know where the keys are. She should pay.

She should pay if she locked herself out.

A proper pet sitter should be insured and her insurance can deal with the expense.

Did you give them a key?

It depends how it happened and why.

I wouldn't hire a pet sitter who didn't have insurance, so would expect them to claim for the damage through theirs if that happened but ultimately if they refused or couldn't for whatever reason then I'd go through my own.
