I’ve only had my place for a month, and going through a really hard time right now. And I have a disability, and have gone through lots of problems while renting, and bought a place partly so I wouldn’t have to go through those challenges anymore. It is a nice place, it’s a two bedroom penthouse with a very big roof terrace and wraparound balcony. It is however… In Greece, which has its good points and challenges as well, including lots of bureaucracy. I’m still trying to set up a bank account, and do everything else that needs to be done, I have also uncovered the little hidden problems with the home that went undetected until I took a bath and… Water went all over the floor because there’s something wrong with the pipes and then there was the mold in the other bathroom… The insurance won’t pay for the mold.

i’m also trying to decorate, and learn DIY, and learn my new neighborhood, and learn everything else, in Greek, with a very severe visual impairment. It’s exciting, but it’s a big challenge and sometimes, I just want to curl up in bed and eat chocolate. I am in the UK right now, since I need a break from everything and I just needed to have fun for a few days.

if anyone can tell me their strategies for how they coped with buying a home and getting through those first few months, I would appreciate it. I’m trying to hang in there.

I think take some time to live in it first before you do much.

Honestly, we bought our first house in February 2022 (I’m early 40s, in the meantime I’ve lived a million different places in my life so it’s hard for me to settle). I only just properly started to unpack and make it ‘our own’ about a month ago. I would definitely give it 3-6 months.

I absolutely love where we live and hope I’ll never move, but it definitely took a few months to not feel like a holiday let.

Yes, I definitely feel very rust to get settled and everyone is like so when is it gonna be ready? For me this is all very overwhelming and very new so it’s taking time. I really have no clue how I want to decorate it yet, I have the sofa, the bed isn’t put together yet but I have a camper bed, I have bought a few tables so I can do things like have a meal and use my equipment, but the rest may not come for a while yet.
