How much alcohol would give you a hangover?

I'm not sure whether it's because I'm due on, but I drank (what I thought was) not a huge amount last night and I've felt dreadful all day. Sick, lethargic, headache etc... We had friends round and I probably had half a bottle of wine and two Prosecco's which would have been fine in the past!!

At present I can get bladdered (drunk) on half a cider shandy or one gin and lemonade!!! 😁😂 I used to drink a lot of alcohol in my younger years but just can't take it now. I still try though LoL

Peggy0907 · 09/04/2023 18:51

Depends what the alcohol is. Wine or prosecco, not a lot! Gin or southern comfort, about 6 large glasses with a mixer. Mixing any sort of alcohol will result in a hangover and any type of shot!

I was at a garden party the other day and drank a few glasses of champagne, nearly a bottle of pink wine, then had a couple of old fashioneds. We were grazing all day. Sun was out, was a great party. Felt absolutely fine the next day.

The week before I had 2 small glasses of wine on a work night and could barely function the next day! It’s so unpredictable these days! A downside of getting older!!

I definitely feel it after half a bottle of wine these days.

Suzi888 · 09/04/2023 18:56

That’ll be the bubbles!

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 09/04/2023 18:56

Anything more than one bottle of wine or about 3 beers.

Oblomov23 · 09/04/2023 19:02

Don't really get hangovers, never really did even when I was younger, no matter how much I drink. Can't remember the last time I felt rough.

JimmyDurham · 09/04/2023 19:02

Depends. 6 pints of bitter, 4 singles of spirits 2 bottles of white wine and just the smell of a glass of red.

BeatriceFranklin · 09/04/2023 19:06

The older I got the less I could tolerate alcohol. One glass of wine used to give me a fuzzy head and I’d waken up with a pounding headache, it just wasn’t worth it in the end.

ItsCalledAConversation · 09/04/2023 19:09

Depends what I’d eaten, time of the month and how well hydrated I was. Also depends if it was nice wine/Prosecco or utter shite.

If I’d not eaten, was due on, was dehydrated and it was shitty supermarket wine/Prosecco then yes, that’d be enough to give me a shitty hangover the next day.

Capitulatingpanda · 09/04/2023 19:15

Any one of the following options. 2 glasses of wine, two bottles of Prosecco, one double spirit and mixer, two pints of beer.

EssexMamisoa · 09/04/2023 20:01

About two sips of anything and I can feel it the next day!! No idea why

userxx · 09/04/2023 20:05

I always take 2 ibuprofen before I go to bed, it will stop a headache kicking in.

Lovetotravel123 · 09/04/2023 20:12

Very little. It’s why I gave up alcohol. Not worth it.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 09/04/2023 20:15

Are you menopausal, OP? I used to be able to drink a fair bit and might end up a touch queasy and with a bit of a headache, but menopause has left alcohol having no effect on me at all (no buzz, no mood altering, nothing, it's as though I haven't had anything at all) and yet leaving me doubled up vomiting on the bathroom floor all night after one glass. So I was getting the hangover - unable to move at all for twelve hours without vomiting - without any of the fun.

So I gave up. Score another one for menopause, the bastard.

Delatron · 09/04/2023 20:26

Very unpredictable due to perimenopause. I used to work off 3/4 bottle of wine as a rule of thumb. But that would depend on how quickly I drank it. Now I can get an awful hangover after a few glasses of wine or feel fine after 3/4 bottle. A bottle would be pushing it! Can depend on the time of month too.

A couple of ibuprofen before bed is a good tip - prevents headache and tackles the inflammation alcohol causes.

Delatron · 09/04/2023 20:27

Oh and yes OP a few days before a period and I think the effects are heightened for some reason - both getting drunk and the hangover.

MrsMorton · 09/04/2023 20:30

Two bottles of red.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 09/04/2023 20:51

3 glasses of wine or prosecco would be enough to give me a hangover. I always stick to 2.

girlfriend44 · 09/04/2023 20:53

I haven't, nor any hot cross buns.

Paperexcelandpens · 09/04/2023 20:57

I never get hangovers. Never have. My dad never did either.

dammiejodger · 09/04/2023 22:54

I am so sensitive thesedays. I used to love Prosecco and could drink a bottle and be fine but over the last year it leaves me with an upset tummy for a couple of days. Same with any other alcohol. I rarely drink now.
