Afternoon activity for London daytrip?

We’re going to be visiting family next week not too far from London and have decided last minute to take the kids on a daytrip there during our stay. My youngest wants to go and see Buckingham Palace and I’m planning to do this first thing. My eldest wants to go to Camden market and I thought we’d do this over lunchtime as there looks to be loads of fab places to eat.

I’m at a loss what to do in the afternoon, the weather is forecast to be nice in the morning and rain all afternoon (Hence the timing of the visit to the palace).

As we’ve left it so late there are no tickets for the natural history museum or the sky garden. Does anyone have any ideas? It doesn’t have to be free but I would rather not spend a fortune on entry fees as they will probably get bought loads during the day! kids are 9 and 12 btw.

Depending on how far you have ylto travel to come into London you might find that's enough.

Which station are you coming into?

Science museum is fun and free. Or you could take a Clipper boat from London Eye to Greenwich, so you get to see Parliament, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, then get off and ride the cable car round trip. If it's sunny when you get back to Greenwich you could climb the hill to the Greenwich meridian at the royal observatory

I second this!

Alternatively while you're at Camden you can take the Jenny Wren boat canal trip which takes you through part of London Zoo. The boat has a little roof so you shouldn't get too wet.

Also, some of the boats that leave from Greenwich have an audio onboard that gives you the history of all the buildings and bridges and some have an actual tour guide.

They're really interesting and lots of fun.

You can get a canal boat from Camden Market down to Little Venice.

Boat trip along Thames is always good.

Some great suggestions here, thanks. I’ll chat to the girls and see what they fancy doing.
