3.5yr old was sick on my bed - can the mattress be saved?

I know I can scrub it and use vinegar or something but I'm pretty sure we all have a virus so is it actually worthwhile cleaning the mattress or best to get a new one?
Unfortunately I didn't have the waterproof protector on, on a fabric one and the vomit was like a waterfall so it soaked right through and I had to also deal with my baby who cosleeps with me so I couldn't deal with it immediately.

Yes you can clean it, you really don't want or need to buy a new mattress every time a kid is sick on one, because that could get expensive and is wasteful.

So sheets off, windows open to air out the room, warm soapy water (dish soap or laundry powder) to clean the spot, then it will need dry out so make sure you don't get it sopping wet, you soak as much of the water out by pressing it with a towel and that you have airflow and sunlight to the mattress. Once it's dry you can use baking soda to neutralise any remaining smell by rubbing it in, leaving it for an hour then hoovering the mattress.

Get some dr Beckmann cleaner with the brush on and scrub it.

Yeh I wouldn't think of changing a mattress every time it was puked on but the volume was huge the mattress is soaked!

Thanks will give it a try

The best stuff for wee + vomit is pet enzyme cleaner, works a treat cos it breaks it all down. We scrub it with that while wet and leave to air out with windows open. That should do it but if it still smells sprinkle with bicarb, leave for a couple of hours then vacuum it off

Should be able to be cleaned and dried. Buy a waterproof mattress protector, terry ones in homebargains are good, don’t make you sweat, and then a mattress protector over the top just incase, these things are bound to happen with kids. Hope your little one is feeling better now.

@Roselilly36 yeh annoyingly I do have a waterproof one it was in the wash! We all have a sickness bug so there's been numerous sick episodes on the bed unfortunately this time it didn't have the cover on :(

A Vanish Stain Remover Detergent Bar and water. Got rid of my babies vomit stains from her mattress. Swear by it for everything.
