‘The massive declutter’ TM-10yr old addition

My 10yr old would put some of the characters in the hoarders programs to shame. So today is ‘the massive declutter’ (TM).

it’s been hyped up all week. It has a theme tune. It has associated bribery (at least 1p for each item donated to charity/recycled/binned)- the low amount is an indication of just how much stuff i think is going to be jettisoned…

this thread is basically to keep me focused through what is going to be an amazing experience (how I’ve sold it to her)/hell on earth (the likely reality).

Best of luck. I hope you're not really hoping to do it all in one day though. I think 3 days hits the sweet spot.

One day to get the bulk of the decluttering done.
One day to really dig deep and make the decisions about what is still left.
One day to thoroughly clean, rearrange furniture etc and soak in the new found space/peace.

Oh I'm with you. A dd9 who is a hoarder and ds7 who says don't care then a day later will be heartbroken we gave something away! Lots of book! Drawing! Bits! Good luck!

She has chosen to start on books! Was making a strong start until she decided she wished to arrange all the horrible history books in time order and mummy’s knowledge has been found v lacking

Love it Please can you share the lyrics of the theme song? I'm also having a massive declutter/organise/packing session today (moving abroad in less than two weeks so it's pretty urgent!!) and could do with the inspiration!

Oh just seen you said it's a tune so maybe there are no lyrics... I'll have to come up with my own!

@Shekissedagirlandshelikedit I hear your great advice but serious doubt my ability to maintain the required levels of enthusiasm beyond one day…

@Mynameisntrelevant thanks for the luck and empathy. We have preemptively negotiated around the zillions of bits of artwork with the agreement to photograph for a photo book and bin the originals….

Good luck OP. She'll see the benefit when some life is breathed back into her bedroom and she has space.

Take her for a non-cluttery treat afterwards. Like a big ice cream sundae in a nice café.

Maybe time to implement some form of the one-in-one-out rule too. Or take a break from buying books and only use the library.

Definitely need a one in one out rule @Getthefiregoing ! We’ve paused for a break but currently have 73 books, 22 items of clothing for charity, 36 items of clothing for recycling, 47 toys for charity, >400 original artistic creations for recycling and 2 bags of rubbish
