What on earth is biting me?

For the last 3 or so weeks I’ve been getting awful bites at night and I cannot work out what they are from.

they don’t match bedbug bites (not in a row, I only get about 3 per night) and we have white bedsheets which I have searched carefully for any trace of bedbugs and no luck.

we have 3 cats, all of which I have combed every single day for the last 3 weeks almost hoping to find a flea to solve the mystery but nothing! (They are also regularly flea treated, and I’ve not noticed any of them itching at all)

honestly they look most like mosquito bites, and about 1 week ago I found a bug in the room that looked very mosquito like which we managed to kill. I assumed it had been this but I’ve still been bitten since.

Is it really mosquitoes in England in March/April doing this to me? Are there more that I’ve just never seen?

imporant info: I share a bed with Dh and he does not have a single bite.

These bites are quite large, incredibly itchy and don’t heal quickly!

Please help me solve this mystery and with any ideas to make this stop?!

Gnats.

I’ve had a few recently. They like flats with pot plants if you have those. Otherwise I think it’s rotting food etc so change the bins more regularly if you think it’s that.

The bites really come up on me like mozzies. It’s annoying.

Maybe carpet beetles. They aren't bites but look like them, they are a reaction to the little hairs in the air (or something) from the larvae. Not everyone reacts, which might be why your DH doesn't have 'bites'.

Thank you so much.

having googled I think it’s gnats - the bites look similar and we have a plant in the bedroom! I also think the bug I found the other day could definitely have been a gnat rather than a mozzie.

off to bin the plant and fumigate the bedroom!
