freezer without drawers?

My freezer over froze, it was left ajar for 2 weeks while away, came back to a literal block of solid ice and ignored i for a bit because i had a load of other issues at the same time. We got used to living with no freezer and i just forgot it was a problem. Now a couple of months later i am moving, we left it open for 48 hours, switched off, fan on it, bowls of boiling water near it, and its still inches thick with ice. We ran out of time, im suitably embarrassed, but the only way to defrost it has been to break the drawers, empty, and chisel off the ice.

Now im left with a dilemma, i cant afford a new fridge, so we can either continue to just use the fridge, or use the freezer too without the drawers. Is this safe? If there an alternative people can suggest that's cheap to solve? New drawers are £40 each for it, so £160 i dont have.

Im already completely ashamed of this situation, so please dont make me feel even worse. I had much bigger issues at the time than a freezer and i just ignored and forgot about it. Thanks

It’s fine to use without drawers. Most of my drawers have broken over the years after becoming brittle - I don’t replace them until I buy a new appliance.

You can get freezers with shelves and no drawers so I imagine it would be fine to use it without drawers

Don't be embarrassed, life happens sometimes and some broken freezer drawers are not something to be ashamed about

I had one without drawers once which i found a nuisance so I measured the space and just found plastic tubs the right size to use like drawers 🙂

Thank you, i wasnt sure if i could just use it, i know how ridiculous it sounds, but over these past few days its become the problem that broke the camels back and has just made want to run away from life hide and cry.

But thank you for the replies.

If you get the make and model number and Google spare parts for freezers you can get replacement ones. I used "espares" for my FIL freezer and it was ancient

Ive looked already, cheapest i can find is £40 each plus shipping, i just cant afford that at the minute as we are moving to a council place, i have very little furniture, it needs carpets, curtains etc, we dont even have beds so for now i cant justify that, but down the line i can get them, for now i wasnt sure if it was safe to just carry on without freezer space. But thank you

We removed some drawers for similar reason. You might be able to order replacements online.
