No idea where we're heading. Probably Cambridge way from Leicestershire. We're going to have a proper adventure.

Where would you head to if you were me?

Not Cambridge, the traffic today is a flipping nightmare!!

WeedKnife · 07/04/2023 13:55

The lakes.

Nagado · 07/04/2023 13:56

Back indoors for sleeping bags in case you can’t find a hotel and have to sleep in the car!

TommyandGina · 07/04/2023 13:56

You could head towards Saffron Walden and take a trip to Audley End House and Gardens.

Nimbostratus100 · 07/04/2023 13:56

No Dover!

how about northern ireland?

Nimbostratus100 · 07/04/2023 13:57

does it have to be only one night?

This sounds good!

Definitely not Dover or Northern Ireland.

I've checked and there are a few hotels dotted about the East Anglia region so we can just pick one if we need to.

Yes, only the one unfortunately.

Southwold is gorgeous and has a brilliant and very unusual pier.

RemoteControlDoobry · 07/04/2023 14:24

The Cambridge area is awfully boring….I’d head the other way to the Cotswold area maybe.

sybil40 · 07/04/2023 14:26

Burghley House is 35 miles from Leicester.
nearby is Stamford
If you go South you can find Fotheringhay ruins where Mary of Scotland was imprisoned and executed.
Not trekking for miles

ThisIsNotAmerican · 07/04/2023 14:26

Turn left as you near Cambridge and head up to Holkham.

RedBonnet · 07/04/2023 14:28

The fens!

Standing room only in the Cotswolds at Easter. When I lived there, we used to make sure we had absolutely everything we needed for five days at home, because even the road through the village was rammed.

KenAdams · 07/04/2023 14:53

OK there is a plan forming now. Stopping for a quick dog walk at Grafham Water, overnight in Cambridge and then the Norfolk Coast in the morning :)

Thanks for all your suggestions, might try and stop at some tomorrow.

Ely cathedral is beautiful and some lovely walks down by the river there, along with a big, dog friendly play park (kids and dog kept happy!). Some lovely little tea rooms too. I don’t know it’s name, but it was next to the Sainsbury’s there.

Please don’t - it’s already heaving here. We like going to Cambridgeshire to get away from our crowds!

Merlo · 07/04/2023 15:14

Sorry, the play park was next to the Sainsbury’s, the tea room was next to the river and a few up in the town (all walkable distance).

slowquickstep · 07/04/2023 15:24

Whitby

QueenofLouisiana · 07/04/2023 15:37

If you are in the Cambridge area, perhaps look at Wimple Hall or Anglesey Abbey for tomorrow. Both NT properties. Wimple is likely to be more family friendly.

TheHomeEdit · 07/04/2023 15:41

How do you manage just rocking up with a dog at hotels / bnbs or do you camp?

MidgeHardcastle · 07/04/2023 15:43

Sounds wonderful! There are dog friendly hotel dotted around, hope you find the perfect one!

JimmyDurham · 07/04/2023 17:27

Keep on going to North Norfolk (being sure to avoid King's Lynn tho').

Xrays · 07/04/2023 17:28

Really doubt you’re going to find anywhere near the Norfolk coast that would have you with a dog without booking 😳 or Southwold. Everywhere here gets booked up so far in advance.

2bazookas · 07/04/2023 18:12

It's Easter weekend. I'd go back home.
