Is this a hangover or am I coming down with something?

I don't drink very often. I used to drink and get drunk on nights out when I was younger but never felt ill or tired the day after.
Yesterday I went to my sisters for her birthday day. I half a bottle of cheap fizz with her (4%) I ate sensibly and drank water in the eve. I felt slightly tipsy but nothing major.
Today, I have shakes, coldness, aching muscles, diarrhoea, stomach pain. I've been able to eat and keep it down. But I just ache all over. Its like i can literally feel the poison seeping through my blood stream. So, is this a hangover? Because if it is, I'll never be touching alcohol again!

No. If it was 24 hours ago, then you either have a lurgy or the drama attention seekies...

Drink water and stay in bed.

Sounds like covid, with a touch of overactive imagination. Take 2 paracetamol and get an early night.

Mutabiliss · 06/04/2023 21:27

I'd say that's a stomach bug. I have felt shivery with a hangover in my youth but I'd have to have had a LOT and been very drunk.

I don't really drink anymore as I have a small child and it's not worth it. But a mild hangover would usually be a pounding headache, feeling very tired and a bit dizzy/sicky and craving salty carbs.

Sounds irrelevant I know but how old are you, OP?

Belatedeyebrows · 06/04/2023 21:32

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy and @MoongazyHare I am definitely feeling sorry for myself! But also, feeling very rough and achey. Perhaps I'm coming down with something.

Half a bottle of 4% wouldn't even get me tipsy. I know we all have different tolerances but no I really don't think that's a hangover.

Belatedeyebrows · 06/04/2023 21:33

@Mutabiliss thanks!

What sort of fizz is 4% alcohol? Do you mean 14%?

In any case it definitively sounds like something other than a hangover. Take some paracetamol, stay hydrated and try to rest as much as possible. Feel better soon!

Whattt44 · 06/04/2023 21:37

Half a bottle these days would have me begging to be put down ! I used to drink like a fish in my 20's but do so very rarely now.
You'll soon know if it's a hangover or not op , if you still feel rough tomorrow .

dammiejodger · 06/04/2023 21:39

I get an upset stomach from prosecco. Can't drink it anymore.

No, 4% it was a cheap bottle of 'let it sloe' m and s bucks fizz left over from Christmas (not out of date.)

Ive felt like this all day today. We went to soft play on Monday so I'm assuming I picked something up there.

mrsfollowill · 06/04/2023 21:45

I really don't think anyone would be hungover after 1/2 a bottle of 4% fizz. No way- I'm surprised you even felt mildly tipsy - you may be coming down with something so get tucked up in bed, 2 paracetamol and a drink of water. You may well feel fine tomorrow!

You’ve pretty much had a pint of lager… so probably I’ll

eleven2023 · 08/04/2023 11:24

This was me with covid felt like I had a terrible hangover!

BungleandGeorge · 08/04/2023 11:28

If you don’t drink usually then it could be a hangover. I know quite a few women who just can’t handle even fairly small amounts when they get into their mid 30s onwards
