Mum going weird Digoxin

Mum had a heart ‘issue’ and was in an A&E ward for 3 days. She’s not been right since she came home at the end of February. She’s 94 and on Dioxin every day. Is her negging, change of behaviour, paranoia due to the heart or drug? I don’t enjoy my weekly visits anymore because she’s changed so much.

I go every week and will keep going! I’ve read that Digoxin is a dangerous long term drug for over 80’s.

Could be a side effect. Going into the hospital can be a very confusing and upsetting experience, especially for older people. Does she have carers? Has anyone else noticed a change?

Could she have a urine infection?

It is a recognised ‘side effect’ after a heart attack that a person’s personality can change. This was certainly the case with my dad, he became very intolerant of things which would never have bothered him before. Rather belligerent too. Although after a couple of years these changes subsided somewhat.
