Am I being silly for being upset

I’m normally not someone who cares what others think apart from this one thing

Family and I went for a short break in south west England

all the people we met, staff at the local pub, receptionist at the holiday homes we were staying, local supermarket were all very lovely

went to the the beach and a couple with their kids were looking at us and I could tell they were talking about us. They then started sniggering and I heard a few things they were saying

basically about my family and things to do with our race - we are Indian although my kids and I were born here.

the thing that really got me was that they were a lesbian couple and would probably understand hate more than others

i left with not a nice feeling as it was the last day of our break too ☹️

Of course you are not being upsetting. BUT it is pointless, there will always be people around who are pathetic and judgemental - and sometimes the people who should know better are worse. Worse, because they feel judged by others and are therefore entitled to judge others.

It's also possible that they are not lesbian but two single parents, or maybe not - I don't know what you saw.

I have been judged for being overweight, for having red hair, for not behaving in the way someone (male) thought I should. I no longer give a toss.

My mantra now is 'Your opinion of me is none of my business'. Mostly I am fine with that. Occasionally someone briefly gets to me BUT unless it's one of my kids I rarely give a fuck any more - and if I do, it's not for long

People are arseholes, OP. You're completely justified in being upset but it's says everything about them and nothing about you.

It's a shame they're raising racist children, but hopefully they'll push against it.

Agree with this.

But honestly OP, you have to train yourself not to give people like this headspace. They don't deserve it. And any opinion they can form about you or your family without ever meeting you or speaking to you is completely meaningless 🤷‍♀️

I understand it is upsetting, but fuck them, they can say whatever they like, but it doesn't make it true. The only opinions you should care about are those close to you, not strangers that don't even know you. Sticks and stones and all that. I wouldn't even waste any more time thinking about it. If they have a problem/issue, then it's thiers and not yours! They obviously have very sad empty lives if they insult people they don't even know!

@NannyGythaOgg

they were a couple as one child called both of them mummy and they were holding hands

i wouldn’t have given it a single thought unless i heard what they were saying

I thought as a society we’d gone past that

it makes me now second guess if anyone else thinks that when I see them

Of course you're not being silly!

The world is full of morons. You just have to ignore them and their moronic comments.

it makes me now second guess if anyone else thinks that when I see them

I can guarantee that if I saw you and your family, I wouldn't be thinking whatever it was you heard them saying and I'm sorry its made you feel that way.

Some people will - that's on them not you. Try not to let ignorant people's opinions matter. They are ignorant - not you.

Some people are just nasty wankers @NowWhatUsernameShallIHave
Don't allow them the power to upset you, I bet other people heard them too. They sound like an embarrassment to normal society
