Data from one phone has mysteriously transfered to another - how is this possible?

I have two android phones one is my personal phone, other provided by work.

My personal phone has lots of apps, photos, personal contacts, photo of my cat on home screen.

Work phone is just used for work calls and has only work contacts, only work texts, no photos or apps.

Yet yesterday after my phones had been snuggled up together in my bag, all the data from my personal phone is now duplicated on my work phone. Everything - apps, photos, personal contacts, cat homescreen photo. And all my work contacts and work texts are gone from my work phone. Everything is still as normal on my personal phone.

No one else has access to my phone and I had not been trying to move over data.

How can this possibly have happened?

And is there some way I can retrieve my lost work contacts? And some way I can easily delete the stuff that's moved onto my work phone?

Would really appreciate some help with this.

I know you can transfer data from one phone to another by holding them together but you'd normally tell it to do it rather than doing it by themselves. We have done it when buying a new handset where we need to transfer the contacts, photos, etc to the new phone

if it has picked up your personal settings can you log out and then back in with your work email and password?

Two Samsungs, by any chance? It is remarkably easy to accidentally transfer between two of them if you have one (or both) set up for syncing (which a lot of people do, but may not even realise).

Log out of Google on the work phone

I don't* have *have work email on my phone. It's purely used for phones calls and texts.

Sorry, my know-how is limited. How do I do this?

Settings - Accounts & Backups - Manage Accounts. Might help but not sure. Or restor work phone from a backup if ones there?

Quveas · 08/04/2023 23:18

There is a backup on samsungs and I think it retains anything deleted for 30 days before totally wiping it. But I think it has to be enabled. Samsung have a pretty decent support service - it's worth checking their site and giving them a ring. They were really helpful when I used them a couple of years ago.

I've had this with my work phone and personal phone. Both iPhones.
Work iPhone has all my personal contacts on it even though I didn't put them there.
