Hello! My partner is taking our 11 year old son to Oxford next weekend to a Phoenix Comic event at The Story Museum. Would really appreciate any tips for interesting Oxford spots that my artistic book loving son might like. Also any suggestions for decent brunch venues? Thanks! ❤️

Another vote for Pitt Rivers and Natural History museum (You go through the NH to get to PR). Ashmolean also fab especially the Egyptian section.

@Feemie and @lolawasashowgirl the shrunken heads (and all other human remains) have been removed from display at the Pitt Rivers. Still lots of other strange curios, however, and the natural history museum is a fantastic space.

I thought that might be the case — it was grotesque, really. But I got kind of fond of them when I was doing my doctorate. I used to escape from the Bod on wet afternoons.

@buckleten @Churchillian @Fenellapitstop @Tree543 thank you for your recommendations too - apologies I missed them last night. It's lovely to hear people talk about a place with such affection 😊

It's one of my favourite places! You have more than enough suggestions to keep your DP and DS busy for a weekend but if there's anything in particular that either of them really enjoy I'm sure we could suggest something between us.

Also, I'm really glad that the Phoenix is still going strong! My two DC used to fight over who got to read it first until they were about 13 or 14.

@PhotoDad ahh The Phoenix is absolutely brilliant isn't it? They ran an amazing festival with all the Phoenix artists last year and my son is going again this year - hence the trip to Oxford. The brothers that run the Phoenix were there and were so down to earth and friendly!
