I think I've bruised my coccyx sitting for too long. Looking for chair solutions.

I'm studying this year and have gone from a job where I rarely sat down to sitting at my laptop for up to 12 hours every day. Have been getting a bit of a sore lower back, but after spending 2 days straight trying to get an essay written I think I've actually done some damage.

Info: I have a crap set-up. A laptop on a stand on a dressing table in the corner of my bedroom, and an old ikea egg shaped chair.

We can't really afford a decent setup (because studying instead of earning) but if I'm actually doing myself damage I guess we need to find a way. Best advice for not wrecking my back / sit bone this year?

Can you move your laptop somewhere so you're standing up for part of the day?

Buy a second hand operator chair on Facebook marketplace/eBay/charity shop and have a read up on workstation set up. Also can you work somewhere other than your bedroom? You're unlikely to have bruised your coccyx, I think that usually comes from falling on it, but the current set up won't be good for your back or posture.

Also try a separate keyboard and mouse for a much more comfortable working set up. Neither should be very costly.

I can stand with my laptop on the kitchen counter I suppose but it's a bit low.

I wish I could work anywhere other than my bedroom. I do sometimes sit at the dining table if everyone's out but it's no better for my back. Worse, even.

12 hours at a laptop is too long for anyone. Every hour get up and walk around and stretch. Go for a walk outside at least once a day. If you need to just do reading so it elsewhere. I do reading in my lounge and any writing at my desk. You could also sit on your bed to read. A better desk and chair might help but in reality you are just sitting down for too long.

I broke my coccyx last year and sat on a pile cushion every day at work 🤣 I got slagged for it but it helped.

You need an adjustable operator chair. You can pick up secondhand ones cheaply on Facebook or eBay. I'm currently using the dining table as a desk and it's fine because I've got a decent chair. I paid £10 for it from Facebook.
