Hi, just looking for a bit of advice from people who have this. Mum has just been diagnosed and is shitting herself she will have to stop driving
. She has to go for a field test to send to the dvla. What happens after this? She wears glasses as she is short sighted but gets eye tests regularly and has great sight vision to drive at the moment.Any advice would be great x

I think it's quite rare to lose sight due to glaucoma. Is it one or both eyes?
She'll just be regularly checked but as long as she follows her treatment, then hopefully she'll be ok

Both eye, she has to put drops in them each night. She is worried sick about having to give up driving as she needs her car for work. She has eye tests every year and has been ok but her last test picked up on it. She had to go to see the eye specialist and he diagnosed it. She wouldn't have known otherwise.

they can do a quick in office laser procedure called an iridotomy.
hopefully she will be followed up by a genuine ophthalmologist.
even following the iridotomy you can drive as soon as the topic anesthetic wears off.

My DF has just had to return his licence unfortunately, due to damage by glaucoma.

He had to do tests at the optician which were sent to the DVLA. It was all about peripheral vision which he hadn't noticed was deteriorating.

Unfortunately the glaucoma wasn't picked up earlier due to covid delays so the damage was more than in most cases so hopefully your mum's outcome will be different

I have glaucoma too, I have eye drops every night. I had to notify the DVLA and had the eye test, my license has be restricted to 3 years and I'm on my second 3 years,
