Post-partum hair loss 2 years after

Posting for traffic.
I had terrible hair loss with 1st baby, but it had grown back within 2 years.
After my 2nd, it all fell out on my temples but almost 2 years later, it's still not grown back properly. It looks so thin and short, colorists won't colour it so it looks odd.
I hate looking in the mirror at my sad, bald hair line.
What would you do? I just can't find anything online. I did go through significant stress in the year after birth. Could it be hormonal? Is there anything I can do or is it too late to stimulate those hair follicles?

Thanks to anyone with any help.

Me too.
Low iron levels contribute to hair loss.
i seem to have an annual hair loss around this time since pregnancy with last baby, 2021. I’ve been using the umberto giovanni long hair shampoo etc kit, and it seems to be helping.

I was like this at three years post partum . I finally went to see a dermatologist and they said this is absolutely not normal.

She recommended my GP check my ferritin (iron) levels. These should be at least 70 to maintain hair and mine was 42. I started taking 210mg ferrous fumerate (bought online from a uk pharmacy) and high strength vit c supplements )to help the iron absorb as was giving me stomach pains). She also recommended I started using regaine 5% minoxidil foam which you rub on your scalp nightly. I use the men's version as cheaper and stronger and buy on Amazon.

6 months in and my hair is growing so fast, I have tons of new growth and my hair ain't falling out like it was. My ferritin levels have increased to 67 and doc said to continue and try and get them up further.

Hope this helps

Thank you so much for this.
Low iron levels would make sense as I'm often really tired. I will check out the regaine also. Thank you.

Can I ask @BMrs , when I googled it, it said you may have increase in hair loss to begin with. Did you experience this?

I have androgenic alopecia, it started about 2 or 3 years PP. I’ve seen a dermatologist and a (private!) one who specialised in hair (sorry I’ve just spent two minutes trying to spell the proper title and gave up!).basically they said ‘try regains’ but it’s not available on prescription so it cost a load, and it didn’t do anything except make the rest of my hair greasy.

I’m getting to the point of thinking about wig wearing, but I work with kids and I just know how badly a couple of them will try to rip the piss out of me, so I need to be very very settled in my choices by then!!

anyway, the point of my rambling is to say, see your GP for blood work to check there’s not a fixable underlying cause (like thyroid) and try and get a referral to a dermatologist (takes forever in my experience) but do be prepared for them to say there’s not much that can be done.

@Whatshername17 no I didn't but I had a lot of hair fall every day. It's slowed so much I barely lose any hair now. I don't apply it all over, I part my hair to my crown in the middle and then apply the mousse on my part and rub in, then repeat this every inch or so down to my ears.

I also got some satin sleep hats as I had a lot of hair on my pillow case each morning.

The regaine I buy when it's on offer from Amazon, it comes in bottles of three and one of the men's 5% minoxidil bottles lasts me three months. I use it about 6 nights a week.

I also know the iron is helping as I have a lot of hair growth at the back of my head where I don't apply the minoxidil but my hairdresser says I do have a bit more hair growth at 😂the sides than the back (where I use the foam).

I paid private to see my derm. Luckily I was already seeing her as I have melasma so she was able to advise on both. As they're so expensive at least others can benefit from her advice for free if I pass it on
