Do you know anyone whose name doesn't suit them?

I name-changed for this, since I'm about to reveal my actual real name...

I'm a Louise, and I've never felt that I look like one. It just doesn't suit me! I think of it as quite a feminine name and I'm a big clumsy oaf who can break things that other people wouldn't consider to be breakable. But at the same time, I always think that Louise sounds ugly, with all the emphasis on that "wheeze" sound at the end. It's just about ok when French people say it, but alas, I am English.

Do you know anyone who has a name that just doesn't sound right on them? I sometimes see on the Baby Names board comments like "We were going to call him George but when he arrived he just looked like a Sam" and I wish my parents had had that sort of ability when I was born.

I'm going to get another snake so I can call it Fierce Barry. It will be even funnier if it's a female snake.

Apparently, if I had been a boy, I was going to be called Conrad. I have no idea where my parents got that from. Thank goodness for the X chromosome, hey?

My name is Lynsey and I'm 24.
I hate it because every other Lynsey is at least 10/20 years older than me and the only way to shorten it is Lyn which is a very old lady name.

You could shorten it to your initial - L (Elle) which is pretty.

Another Joyless Joy. She was the village post mistress. Never saw her smile in 40 years. I used to use the post office at least twice a week. She never gave a flicker of recognition. Never known anyone more misnamed.

Female snakes are immune to all that social conditioning stuff. Their eating and toileting habits are most unladylike.

Many years ago I worked with a very nice woman who had salt & pepper grey hair, in a pudding-basin style, wore no make up, and very plain clothes - her name was a very 'period drama' double name, along the lines of Georgette Alexandrina, Grace Frederika, etc.

Her name just didn't fit - after she left I found out she was really called Ann!

I can well believe that - I have it on good authority that vipers never even use a toilet brush!

I come from a culture where lots of our names are unisex. My name is quite common and I went to college with 5 others who had the same name, including 1 guy! My kids have fairly common/popular names for our background, but they love them due to the meaning and significance they have when relating to mine and my husband's names.
Your parents must've liked the name and it's something that will connect u to them when they're gone...

I have a very 'classic' name- boring. I was one of 8 in my school year. I really feel like it's not my name.

I am generally known by name+my middle name as though it's hyphenated. It is really odd to only hear my first name.

I love the name Louise. Unfortunately my DH didn't. I got to use it as a middle name for DD.

When i attended a recent hospital appointment the Dr looked shocked when I walked in.
She repeatedly asked me if I was xxxx name
I confirmed it was me.

She confessed she was expecting someone much older looking...😂

People I've met who did not suit their names:

Tryphena - quiet and mousy
Crystal - tomboy with cropped hair
Hilda - young and beautiful
Doreen - young and beautiful (not from UK and might have been spelt dorine but pronounced the same)
Wilma -young and pretty (again not from uk)
Lily - huge and tomboyish
