Are other people starting to hate Alexa too?

Is the tide turning on amazon Alexa? I just hate it, I hate having to speak everytime I just want to play a song or turn the radio on. Today she hasn't been able to play the Titanic soundtrack or Greatest Hits radio...its just annoying. 1st world problems I know but think I'm going back old school and getting my cd player back out

She never listens to me.

I asked the bitch to turn the bedroom light on as I walked in the other day, ignored me and I stubbed my toe!

TakingMilesFromInches · 03/04/2023 19:31

Nooo! I love ours. Lots of echo dots all around the house and she mostly does as she’s asked.

Malariahilaria · 03/04/2023 19:34

I have three. The one in the kitchen is a very expensive egg timer. The other two are in the DC bedrooms to tell them stories at night but never seem to be able to connect to the right amazon or Spotify stories so are now expensive alarms or sleep sound toys. Bored of them now, cannot be doing with the fuss it takes to get them connect to the robovac, lights or stereos. Quicker to do it myself.

Wheretheskyisblue · 03/04/2023 19:34

I have unplugged most of our echo dots as I am finding alexa increasingly annoying. A lot of the apps are no longer as good as they used to be, amazon music plays tracks randomly and has cut down the free music, my ocado app no longer allows me to directly add food to my basket and listen to the radio is a big hassle as alexa insists of playing an annoying introduction each time.

universityhelp · 03/04/2023 19:39

I never got one in the first place as could never see the point/appeal. It was obviously a marketing/data gathering exercise from Amazon - why else were they giving them away so cheaply?

teacakie · 03/04/2023 19:42

I never speak to mine, I usually just play music on it through Spotify though.

Mamette · 03/04/2023 19:45

I find it annoying and I don’t even have one. I hate voice commanding things. What’s so hard about pressing a button 👵🏼

sanityisamyth · 03/04/2023 19:46

I love all of mine. Although she's struggling to play the Harry Potter quiz now for some reason?

tiredhadenough · 03/04/2023 19:47

I just use it as a speaker now, I link Spotify through it or play the radio. Minimal talking!

NetballHoop · 03/04/2023 19:48

Mine is used as a kitchen timer and not much else.

DS1 does like to whisper "spy code words" at it. Such as "The lemons came early this springtime"

We may be raided at any time!

MoonOverBroadway · 03/04/2023 19:48

I have Google Home and just use it to stream music. Don’t bother asking it questions.

OneCup · 03/04/2023 19:50

I hate it. I feel like throwing the thing out of the window.

😂

We just have one in my son’s room which plays Harry Potter books on loop (that’s all he ever wants to listen to). Can’t get it to do much else. I feel like I’ve got my £25 out of it (was on sale) but wouldn’t bother buying one for myself!

L1ttledrummergirl · 03/04/2023 20:38

Mine keeps my shopping list. We used to listen to music but when they stopped letting us skip tracks and started adding random shit we couldn't skip past we gave up.

RichardHeed · 03/04/2023 20:40

Never had one. If I want to play a song or turn the radio I walk over to the radio and turn it on 🤷🏻‍♀️ Never got it, never will I think.

SleepyMathematician · 03/04/2023 20:43

Yes, I’m over mine. They’re all turned off now. DD keeps hers on and I regularly hear her giving it the same instruction 3 or 4 times over, with increasing levels of irritation. I turn mine on when I need a speaker but that’s it.

Custardbanana · 03/04/2023 20:44

Can't stand the eavesdropping bitch.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 03/04/2023 20:47

my inner tinfoil hatter springs to life when it comes to Alexa type gadgets and ancestry.com style dna tests.

topofbighill · 03/04/2023 20:51

There was a radio chat about how there's a trend to speak to people like we speak to Alexa. I must admit my tone is always a bit off with her.

Shouldbesleeping8 · 03/04/2023 21:24

I love Alexa as I hate having to use my phone for everything nowadays and Alexa makes a few things I do in my kitchen phone free. Music, radio, timers, shopping lists and fart noises. And I love her for that.

Findyourneutralspace · 03/04/2023 21:26

Never had it, never will. Apparently kids at school now call their teacher ‘Alexa’ rather than ‘Mum’

Sunsetchaser01 · 03/04/2023 21:28

She hates me. We have never got on since the first day. She just blanks me and does what anyone else asks . I fecking hate her and use my phone to control stuff so I don't have to converse with the witch 😂.

😆

I was thinking of getting an Alexa for my upcoming Birthday but I am not so sure now.

nilsmousehammer · 04/04/2023 00:15

Gets used a lot for reminders and timers, but the music thing is now a dead loss since it stopped playing what you asked for, gives you a huge boring spiel about if you want to listen to what you want you have to pay more money, and then plays a lot of random stuff you don't want to listen to. She gets told to shut that racket up quite frequently. (And often you have to ask several times before she will stop: the plug has been pulled more than once.) Gone back to CDs and to listening from itunes.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 04/04/2023 02:10

Mine are great. They happily turn the lights on and off, add things to our shared shopping list, tweak the heating, play what I ask them to (I have it hooked up to Spotify not Amazon Music), answer the kids' questions, pretend to be cats and all that stuff.

If you use them for music, try hooking two together as a stereo pair (they have to be the exact same model to pair up), the sound is surprisingly decent. I've got a bass sub in the lounge with a pair of gen 3 Echoes. All of them bought on sale or 2nd hand - just got an extra gen 3 for £30 off ebay.
