Do Dalmatians ever come with both brown AND black spots, or is it always one or the other ?

I've never noticed either way but I suppose it's possible, if not probable. Ta.

Very occasionally you get tricolour ones, they’re Black with some brown spots on certain patches - where a solid tricolour dog or Black and Tan dog would have the tan patches.

It’s a fault though, they couldn’t be shown, shouldn’t be bred from and the breeder shouldn’t repeat that breeding either.

Lots of breeds have things that occasionally appear like that, because most breeds had other breeds involved in making them to start with. Like, you occasionally get long haired Rottweilers.

Thankyou tabu. What's the issue with breeding from a tricolour; breed standard, health implications or something else?

As far as I know - just breed standard, unless someone was breeding on purpose for it, that’s a thing in some breeds, people breed “rare” colours to sell for extra money, but they usually breed in health issues as well.

I'm almost certain i once saw a Dalmatian that was black with white spots. But i was alone in the car so no one to verify. Is that possible?

CountingMareep · 03/04/2023 22:03

Probably not @chessburger . In my very limited knowledge that’s more likely to be a 57 varieties mix than any kind of breed.

More likely to be a pointer, similar size and they can sometimes look like they’re blank with white spots.
