Any docs about does this make sense :vaginal rugae

I had stabbing pain and throbbing a while ago, it subsided but I felt something rough.

Doc saw it today and said its vaginal rugae but Google tells me that's the actual side of the vagina? Why would it be rough?
Has he made a mistake?

Rugae are the folds of skin in the wall of the vagina. Ie the walls aren't smooth

Smooth as it they actually felt rough, scabby not smooth as in what the side of cheek feels like?
