How long does advance background checks take/ will I get paid?

I am in the middle of getting an advanced check done in the job I'm currently working in. I'm due to get paid in the middle of this month but I imagine my background check will need to be completed as they need a payroll number from this which will only be granted once my check is done. My application was submitted to the relevant body on the 31st on March so my question is how long does an advance check take ( it will be all clear so should be as straightforward as possible)

I just had one done and it took 4 weeks (all clear, no complications such as change of name or address). I think you need to check with your employer exactly what will happen about pay.

Oh no 🙈 this will be the second pay that'll I'll miss ( I started too close to pay day last time) thanks for replying though! I'll find out tonight when I'm in work

It's not just about it being in place before pay day, but the cut off date. This is usually 2-3 weeks at least before pay day unless it's a very small company where payroll is done manually.

Therefore, it sounds unlikely that you'll be paid 'normally'.

However, there must be a facility for an advance? If they already owe you money and know approximately how much you should be paid (as they will know your salary) ask for an advance of something close to what you'll be owed by pay day, or at least the amount that you need to pay your basic bills, food, transport etc.

I agree with person above. If they say you will not be paid 'normally ' ask for a advance. It is not an unreasonable request.

Where are you?
England are saying 14 days currently, but there are a load of bank holidays coming up.
That said, where are you working that needs an enhanced DBS in order to get paid, but you are already working?!

Mine was put in on 14/02 and I'm still waiting... Can't set foot on the site until it's cleared either! I have no criminal record, so it's not that holding it up - I'm told it's stuck with the local police who have a massive backlog.

Apparently, after 60 days, it can be chased, with then 10 days for them to return, so that's probably your worst case scenario. I'm now assuming I'm looking at that. I'm skint and need to start the job! It's shit. (Mine is a nursery, so understandable at least that I can't start until it's processed, but bloody hell I'm skint!)
