Tell me about the minor health problems you're not getting treated now that we no longer have a health service

Just to keep me company.

Me: had an ear infection for just over a week. I bought some prescription drops from a chemist that can supply them but both ears still hurt especially at night (hence being awake) and I can't hear properly. I can't hear low pitch sounds at all. This has more of an impact than you might think and is very weird to experience.

Filled in an online form for my GP last week and got a text saying they'll phone me in four weeks. I mean I can't hear anyway even if the phone does ever ring but ok.

Also got perimenopause flooding and general unpleasantness due to fibroids. Literally nothing is happening about that.

It's all just very shit.

Can you change doctors they aren't all like that?

I changed a few years ago and my new doctors are amazing. My old ones were shit as far back as 2010.

My new ones I phone and if I think i need a same day call/face to face e.g. for a chest infection causing issues with my asthma they always manage to speak to/see me promptly. I get my regular check ups easily and Ive had a doctor go off and research a conditon of mine and come back with solutions that I didnt even know existed.

Honestly I cant fault them. So whilst I know the NHS is struggling, you may find a different surgery if you have one within reach is better

Rapidly growing gaps in teeth. No NHS dentists in my county.

last year I had really bad jaw pain was told by my dentist it would be at least a 9 month wait to see anyone about it, I couldn’t eat properly and was in so much pain couldn’t sleep. Phoned a private clinic seen that week consultant was excellent, very thorough and whilst I’m not cured I’m much better. Same with my DS, he hurt his toe nail, phoned the GP surgery he was given a triage appointment it is so hard to describe what had happened to it without them actually seeing it. The GP said well it’s about a year to see a podiatrist on the NHS due to back logs I’d go private, £40 later and he’s basically lost all his nail never to grow back. Luckily we can pay for minor things like this but what if you can’t? What if you’re waiting for an operation? I’ve heard so many people getting ops in private hospitals to help clear the NHS back logs, somethings not right there, no money for the NHS yet paying for private hospitals? Maybe build a few new hospital/hire more staff or is that against the Tory policy of running it so far into the ground there’s nothing left?

Carpal tunnel, both hands. Its excruciating doing something as simple as putting socks on ffs. Looking at private but its £3k per hand.

Shesasuperfreak · 03/04/2023 00:42

This
Sore skin that is rapidly spreading across both hands front and back.

Have been to the GP 3 times I have been waiting for a referral for over a year.

They didn't even prescribe something to try out.

I don't recognise your experience at all. I've had same-day appointments for peri-menopause issues; DC had same day for a rash; other DC had same day for a sore throat. Less than 2 months wait for a hospital referral. All my family members have been the same and we're in different parts of the country.
I think the NHS is amazing and I hate the Tories trying to simultaneously run it into the ground, and sell massive contracts to their mates.

BouncingWorms · 03/04/2023 00:50

@Shesasuperfreak I know you’re not doing for suggestions but have you moved recently? Whilst not particularly sore my hands look like that whenever I visit a certain place. It’s something in the water I think.

Cupofteaaa5 · 03/04/2023 01:01

Well instead of not getting my health issues treated, I'm forking out to go private. I need an operation, I'm on the urgent list. Found out this week the wait for urgent is 50-60 weeks. God help people on the routine list. I'm in pain, so I'm paying private to have it done in a few weeks.

Really crap situation but I can't wait a year in pain.

Loolah · 03/04/2023 01:16

Had a permanent headache for 4 months got medication, had an MRI last week. Told 3 weeks plus for results.
Perimenopause symptoms had an abdominal scan which showed gallstones- told I need a non urgent telephone consultation, date is 8 weeks later ( luckily no pain connected to gallstones yet)

RosesAndHellebores · 03/04/2023 01:25

1 hour, 45 minute delays for my rheumatology appointments due to overbooked clinics. Optimal treatment is teriparatide. The NHS won't pay for it so £1200 pa for two years.

GP refused to acknowledge my back was broken and to refer for tests. Also refused physio despite acute pain. I had an MRI privately and private physio. My back was broken hence the need for teriparatide that the NHS refuses to pay for.

Personyouneedisnannymcphee · 03/04/2023 01:45

I’m 26 with severe back pain all the time. I somehow had one appointment with an NHS physio for an assessment on my back and she agreed it was, well, fucked. But nothing further happened and now I just live with the pain everyday, at 26!

Also, my stomach hurts after eating every time whether it’s little or small. I know a GP would ask for a food diary so I tried to keep one, it hurts no matter what I eat and it hurts for hours. It doesn’t stop me from going to the toilet or make me go more than usual. It just really fucking hurts. I just push through as I know with no obvious cause the GP Would tell me to take buscopan and not investigate the actual cause.
