Have you ever made a friend online

I’ve actually met 4 and each one I’ve met have been really lovely, and we consider each other firm friends. While a couple of my close friends said oh be careful you don’t know who you are meeting! It could be a man and you could be putting yourself in danger! There were no men. I met in a public place and it worked out well

Very much so. One of them became the godmother to our daughter, despite us never meeting. God Rest You Artermis.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/04/2023 19:53

I don't really believe in it. I'd have to know someone in person.

zebrapig · 02/04/2023 19:58

Yes. My three best friends are all other mums I met online when DD was tiny. 8 years of friendship now. We originally met up in a group of about 12, all from the same town. We're the ones who became firm friends and the friendships have stood the test of time. They've been my rocks during some tough times as we have no family nearby.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 02/04/2023 20:27

Yes, loads. Some of my closest friends are women I met on a talkboard getting on for 20 years ago.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 02/04/2023 20:28

And men, in fact.

Twospaniels · 02/04/2023 20:32

3 online friends. I have met 2 of them in real life and they were lovely and just as expected. The 3rd I haven’t met because she lives abroad

shivawn · 02/04/2023 20:34

As a teenager I did, mostly on message boards of a celebrity I was really into at the time. These days we're friends on Facebook so I kind of keep up with their lives but we don't chat anymore

RuthW · 02/04/2023 20:37

Yes my best friend. I met her online about 15 years ago. We talk every day and meet up often. She's about 90 mins away.

VariationsonaTheme · 02/04/2023 20:38

Yes, some of my closest friends started off as online ones.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 02/04/2023 21:58

Yes! One. Met through a Facebook ground for our profession, started off by watchjng a TV show 'together' (hitting play roughly the same time then move messaging). Sent messages daily, mostly about work, then grew into our personal lives. Then did video calls over wine, but only occasionally.

Then last year by a fluke her flight across the globe was diverted to Heathrow and they had a long layover where they were allowed to leave so I went and picked up her and her partner and had lunch. It was great!

I consider her a very close friend, we have a lot in common and share similar values.

I have a lovely friend I met on a FB support group for a health condition we both suffer from. We message each other throughout each day and are a big support to one another. We send each other Christmas and birthday gifts and although we have never met in person (we live quite a distance away), I see her as much as a friend as those who I see face to face.

TheNoodlesIncident · 02/04/2023 22:08

I have a friend I "met" on an online game. We were buddies on the game for a long time, then the group of us who all got well met up in RL. I haven't seen the others since (the game stopped after some years) but I have stayed in touch with this one. She has visited my area in 2019 and I am going to visit her in her European country this year.

She's the loveliest person, I feel privileged to count her as a friend, and I can't wait to see her again Grin

beachcomber70 · 02/04/2023 22:18

Yes. Met my best friend online 23 years ago. We were either sides of the country, she he now lives a 7 minute walk away. We've had brilliant times.

Pseudonamed · 02/04/2023 22:22

Yes and she is one of the best friends a woman can have. Think we met about 17 years ago now. I met DP online too.

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/04/2023 22:30

Yes I've got a lovely group of friends that I met on here and we have a WhatsApp group now and a private FB page. They are so important to me! I've also got another group from Twitter and we meet up.

Poppiesway1 · 02/04/2023 22:30

Yes. Via MN on a breastfeeding page. Our Dc are now late teens heading to Uni soon! We speak almost every day. Have met in person several times. Love them all to bits.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 02/04/2023 22:33

Yes, several friends through mn ante natal boards. They migrated to fb groups and we had quite a few meet ups in person. I only
have the ones I’ve actually met as fb friends, but we’ve have nearly 12 years of friendship now.

hoophoophooray · 02/04/2023 22:34

My 3 best friends are all from the online

Bluevelvetsofa · 02/04/2023 22:36

Quite a few and I’ve met most of them.

blebbleb · 02/04/2023 22:37

Yes lots! I've met most of them in person too.

BelindaBears · 02/04/2023 22:38

Yes a few. The main one is a bloke, we’ve been purely platonic friends for 10 years now.

OKFinally · 02/04/2023 22:40

Oh yes indeedy, but if I was to expand it would be considered ummmm what is the word oh yes, disingenuous………… I guess that makes me……an (M)oldie…😂

BluetheBear · 02/04/2023 22:47

Yes! I have a couple of groups for friends I have met on here. One of the groups I now know in person and the other one we have still never met but have been speaking online for about 3 years!

InSpainTheRain · 02/04/2023 22:52

I met DP on line - long before there was Internet dating. We are still together 29 years and 2 kids later.

dreamqueen22 · 02/04/2023 22:58

I would like to but I'm never sure where to look.
