Share with me your destination wedding tips…

We’ve decided to have a destination wedding followed by a party back at home and I was wondering if any of you have any tips you’d be willing to share with me, pretty please 😊

A few specifics:

  • It is a done deal that we are going to be married abroad, even if it ended up being just the two of us, so unfortunately any “don’t do it” comments will be of no value
  • I come from a large family and between us we have a lot of friends so there is likely to be a minimum of 40 people decide to come with us
  • My current choice for locations is likely to cover Cyprus/Greece/Turkey to ensure it is not long haul travel from the UK

Beyond that I’m flying blind; any destination brides willing to share their experiences, do’s and don’t’s and top tips for things I might overlook or not consider as part of this planning and preparation process.

thanks in advance 😘

Hiya! Just come across this while looking at the same things! How are you getting on so far?

Hi OP,

I’m not getting married abroad but I am getting married next year so I have looked into it.

The main thing is making sure you are legally married at the end of it. Depending on where you go, it can be practically impossible to have a legally binding marriage abroad unless you are a citizen. So you need to check the rules for the country you want to get married in. Lots of people end up doing a quick registry office wedding a couple of weeks before and just having a symbolic wedding abroad

I am getting married in Crete later this summer. I found joining a Facebook group for Greek weddings was really useful in finding a wedding planner and to be honest our planner has been a god send and has booked all other suppliers, venue, and sorted the legal paperwork etc.

Don't have one. Most guests hate receiving destination wedding invites.
