Is this a good buy? Is it easy to use - both for him and me? and not too expensive? And can I get library books on it without too much effort?

We love ours!
Dyslexic 7 year old and our 6 year old have had one each for years. It was a game changer for the 7 year old as it opened up a world of books he couldn't access without us reading them to him. Really easy to use and has night time features. Can control it from an app on my phone too. The customer service is excellent. There's a Yoto club which is something like £10 /month and you can pick 2 cards each month. We have a library card that we download library books onto and then over write it with the next library book. We've made Make-Your-Own cards with their favourite music.

I don't work for them and not on commission but I think it's one of the best things our kids own. The toddler will be getting one when he turns 2. Smile

We love ours too. Dc 6 and 7 , have had it a few years already and could use it from being 3/4. We don't really do the make your own, but they have a good collection of cards now and listen to them most days.

Another yes vote here but @Spinxsta how do you do that with library books? We've had ours a year but I still haven't worked out the make your own cards!

Our library uses borrow box. You can download the books and put them onto MYO cards. We copy over them with new books when the rental period ends (but there's nothing to stop you keeping them ... just copyright laws and morals 😬).

Another fan here! 8yo with additional needs so isn’t reading himself yet, but loves books and Yoto has given him independence to access books. We joined the club for a year so have quite a few ‘proper’ Yoto cards, but also have loads of the MYO cards which I’ve filled with audio books that we had already on cd or which I’ve picked up cheaply. We also use borrowbox. As @Spinxsta says, it’s fairly easy to do. You need to use the borrowbox website not the app, download the book you’ve borrowed, then upload to a playlist on the Yoto website. It does take a bit of time (partly because my internet is slow!) but I just do it while I’m watching tv in the evening and it’s not difficult once you know how.

Best thing I’ve bought my son - he’s listening right now (and has been for a couple of hours since he woke up!)

What exactly is it? I've googled it and comes up with the website, a little find which sells yoto toys. My two primary school children are dyslexic ; as am I) and need some sort of audio book they can listen too? thanks

My not confident/able 6yo likes it. It's definitely encouraged an enjoyment in being read to which preciously wasn't there. I'd encourage anyone and everyone to have one.

We just use our library libby app on an ipad. It's free and there's a good range. I do have to set it going but that's fine with me.

UndercoverCop · 02/04/2023 19:42

DS has one and loves it. He likes the podcasts as well as the audio books we have. I also like the app on my phone, we had a longish car journey today and he listened to a story through the car radio.
I'm fascinated by the talk of library audio books, how does this work? We use the library for paper books but I had no idea you could do this. We have a few make your own cards, some have stories read by family members, including my grandad who has since died so don't want to record over, but we have a blank one that could be used for library audiobooks

I like that the yoto has no extern, no Google/search function, no capacity for games etc.

KBLondon · 04/04/2023 10:08

We love our Yotos! We bought the original for our (now) 5 year old for her 4th birthday and she has used it every single day since.

And I’ve just caved and bought a mini so my youngest can have one too (we passed the original to the youngest and our older child has the mini). We’re pretty thoroughly converted to the whole Yoto concept! 😂

I wondered what the sound quality would be like on the mini vs the original but I’m pleased to report that the sound is great on both.

A Yoto in each bedroom has transformed bedtime. You can set them up so that the volume turns off at a specified time so we stick a card in every time at bedtime (and the original has a nightlight too).

I've made a make your own 'library' card for each child. It is super easy to load up new library books every couple weeks if your library uses BorrowBox. This is one of the best aspects for us -- the ability to have a constant rotation of new stories for free.

Happy to share my referral discount of 10% off your first purchase of £59.99 or more 😊

Just popping my code here for anyone who is thinking of buying and wants 10% off first order. My little one is desperate for more cards but can’t afford any so would help me out as well 😊

we have had a Yoto for nearly 2.5 yrs now and it has been used ever single day. My 4.5 year old is constantly listening to stories, it has transformed bedtime and we also got the mini for when we travel and that has been a game changer.
i have been a nanny for over 16 years and now a mum and it is honestly my favourite purchase ever.

can pick up second hand cards on Facebook as well.
