Anyone know how much it would be to wrap a small car

Very small. A Ford ka to be precise.

I’ve googled and it seems to suggest between 2.5k and 5k but dh is insisting it’s about £800.

Wrap....in wrapping paper? Why would it cost 5k?

pavillion1 · 01/04/2023 22:19

Wrap ?

Viviennemary · 01/04/2023 22:20

What do you mean.

pavillion1 · 01/04/2023 22:21

il do it for you for £700 😬

user56912 · 01/04/2023 22:22

Sorry! It’s what they now often do instead of respraying. I think it’s like a vinyl shrink wrap thing.

I just checked our local place in London and a small car is £2k

Completely bored & in bed poorly but thought I'd google too @user56912

Did you see this article?

My DP has just had all the chrome on his new Audi wrapped in black. It cost him £500

£500 to 5k is normal, depending on the car, quality and finish. I’d be suspicious of anyone charging less than £1800 for a KA. Fuck knows the state of your Audi if you had it done for £500

AnOldCynic · 02/04/2023 00:33

@Aylestone it was just the chrome trim, not the whole car...

Pixiedust1234 · 02/04/2023 00:52

Is this for when you've had a bump?

(I thought it was wrapping paper too, like a surprise 18th present)

That makes a lot more sense, but you never stated it was just the trim. You can get chrome Audis, and I was wondering what your dh had said to you to make you think that’s what he’d paid for an entire wrap 😂

FictionalCharacter · 02/04/2023 01:06

Jeez, I didn’t know this was a thing. Another way to put plastic crap into the environment.

@Aylestone you could just apologise for getting it wrong and insulting the poster you know. She said all the chrome bits, totally clear it wasn't a chrome car!

MarchMadness23 · 02/04/2023 01:30

I'm a bit envious that so many of you didn't know what the OP meant. You've obviously not sat through hours of car programs!!

@user56912 why do you want a KA wrapped? I would expect it to be around£3000.

Anybody reading her post would know she was talking about chrome trim. You were rude.

I think we've decided against it having done some more research. It's basically a family member's car with very low mileage and in good condition but its quite girly. They would sell it to us cheaply for DS's 18th birthday but we were then wondering about getting it wrapped so it was black and a bit more suitable for a teen boy.

A friend who knows about cars says it will peel off anyway.

OP posts:
massivenamechnage · 02/04/2023 10:04

It is also a modification and would need to be reported to insurance

watcherintherye · 02/04/2023 10:11

Just here to add (completely unnecessarily, I know!) my take on My DP has just had all the chrome on his new Audi wrapped in black. There’s no mistaking that that means the trim, especially to someone who obviously knows what wrapping is in this context.

What does 'quite girly' mean?

Unless it's pink and covered in flowers and 'powered by fairy dust' crap, how is it girly? It's a car.

Why does it need to be black?

scrivette · 02/04/2023 10:15

It shouldn't peel off if done properly and professionally.

cocksstrideintheevening · 02/04/2023 10:24

What's a girly car?

user56912 · 02/04/2023 11:15

Not getting into all this. He's a quiet, not very confident boy who is bullied at school. A sparkly red car wouldn't help. Not getting into any further discussion about that. We've decided against it anyway. Thanks for the help.

@user56912 if you get it done at a good place, they'll give you a decent guarantee against peeling IF you follow the care instructions.

BUT it can still be scratched & damaged with riad chips. You have to be very careful washing it not to drag crap across it etc

it depends on your DS, but if it's the best car for the money he has/you have maybe he wouldn't care too much about the 'girly' colour?!

whatever you look at, check the insurance first. Some of the cars you'd think wouldn't, do have very high insurance.

it's all an expensive nightmare! 🚙 🚗
