Buying a house with Ivy growing

Afternoon.

I'm after some advice please as we're potentially moving forward with this house but wondering if anyone has had experience of a property with a heavy covering of Ivy.

Of course would get some professional advice but I'd be grateful for anyone who has knowledge/experience with similar?

Thanks.

Even if the Ivy is removed it will leave stains where it has gripped on. You won’t know if it had damaged the bricks underneath until you have it removed.

we had a walk of ivy in ours, the bricks were fine, just small
small repairs to the mortar. But it has left marks which we’ve been unable to remove.

Until the ivy is removed you won’t know the extent of the damage to the brickwork. It will also stain the brickwork so something to bear in mind. Personally I wouldn’t buy it.

You might have to render the whole of the front of the house to cover the damage and make it all look the same, and it may be very difficult to totally kill the ivy, it will try to keep coming back. You would want to factor in potential remedial work to the price you pay.
