Question to ikea hemnes daybed owners

I’m thinking of buying the ikea hemnes daybed for our spare room. To anyone who has them how comfortable is it for an adult to sleep on in single mode due to it being narrow? It will be mainly used for children and teenagers but occasionally my brother visits (average size male). Ideally I wouldn't bother extending it just for one guest Smile

Also thinking I might need it for times husbands snoring gets to much (for husband not me Grin)

We have one and for sleeping on all night I always extend it even if it's just for one person, as it does seem a bit narrow. I have napped on it extensively when unextended through, and never fallen off or been that bothered by it being narrow. It's probably fine but I'm afraid I can't tell you from experience, sorry!

I find it fine (I am 164 cm and weigh 55kg) but it's too narrow for my husband (185cm and 90kg) so I would say it depends on the size of the adult! It's easy enough to pull out though so I'd do that even for one night (but not in the middle of the night to escape snoring 😅)

I've slept on one a few times at a friend's house. I'm "generously proportioned" and it's fine.

We have one and regularly use it if one of us has to get up early and avoid disturbing the other. Rarely pull it out and find it fine. It is narrow but manageable. And I'm used to a super king.

My Mum also happily sleeps in it as a single when she visits. We only pull it out if we have more than one guest.

We also find that the two mattresses stacked on top of ech other are more comfortable than one mattress when it's pulled out.

I don't think it is narrow. If you sleep with another person in a standard double, each person has 67.5cm of bed width. If you share a king, ypu have 75cm. The hemnes has 80cm in each mattress

I have slept on mine for many nights when covid isolating, with no issues at all

Crumbcatcher · 01/04/2023 14:26

I don't think it's narrow, also it's longer than a single which is good. Mine doesn't pull out smoothly though, does anyone else have this issue?

We had one for teen DD. It is too narrow and awkward to pull out.
Look on ebay for one, there are usually dozens for sale!

Leftoverssandwich · 01/04/2023 14:39

We’ve had one for years. Perfectly fine to sleep on but very quick and easy to pull out too. I usually extend it for adult guests.

I think it's fine for an average sized adult. You need lots of pillows though because it's unconfortable to lean against the back of it if you are sitting in bed. There is this ridge at the top.

Windywuss · 01/04/2023 15:49

Mine is super comfy. I use it as a sofa and an occasional bed for my mum. Because it has two mattresses stacked (and one is from my DS's old bed so quite thick) it's really comfy as a single. Never used it double. Eventually going to make it DS's bed when we swap rooms around. It'll be nice for him to have option of double as he gets older.

PlainJanePerfect · 01/04/2023 17:15

It's long and narrow. My DP sleeps on it 5-6 nights a week except for a weekend night when he comes and inflicts his snoring upon me in the name of closeness.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like it should suit our purposes. Good tip @FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb about eBay I will have a look.

We've got two. No problems at all with them and perfectly big enough for DCs or guests when pulled out as a double
