Long drive tomorrow. What shall we listen to? Myself and DC 11 and 13. 11 year old is currently reading His Dark Materials and listening to the Eragon series. I just finished reading Small Pleasures and listening to Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South. Eldest will pretend he’s not listening but likes a good story too. Any ideas?

We got bleak expectations recently which is very silly but we have all been enjoying

StJulian2023 · 31/03/2023 23:29

That sounds fun, silly would definitely be good

Sabriel series. It’s read by Tim curry and I think I read it originally when I was about 12. Highly recommend!

Ooh more good ideas, thank you!

I was considering Susan Cooper’s ‘Over sea, under stone’ - anyone read that?

Definitely. Best audio ever

Our favourite is project hail mary

Shiloh139 · 31/03/2023 23:44

You could try Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson or the Harry Potter books narrated brilliantly by Stephen Fry, if the kids have seen the films but never read the books.

StJulian2023 · 31/03/2023 23:49

Just listened to a bit of Cabin Pressure - I’d like it but DS can’t cope with canned laughter! 🤣

We’ve read/heard all Harry Potters, all Roald Dahls, Narnia series, How to train your dragon, lots of Michael Morpurgo.

I keep hearing about Project Hail Mary, off to find out more about that one…
