How did you feel after surgery?

I had a 1.5 hour operation on my ankle yesterday. It was my first ever operation and I just feel a bit rubbish today. I guess this is normal?

It obviously doesn’t help that I can’t move easily / do anything. But I’ve got such a sore throat too, my arms hurt from the cannulas and I am covered in bruises, and I thought I would be completely knocked out at night but in fact the opposite - I am struggling to sleep.

I am probably just feeling a bit sorry for myself especially as it’s Friday night and I should have been out with my friends tonight, but merghhh.

Yep, normal to feel rough. Your body has been through a lot!

The more you rest, the quicker you’ll fell better.

DD had surgery recently and was pretty groggy for a while afterwards, maybe a couple of days. She slept and slept and slept.

I always take time to get over the anaesthetic and using spend at least three days lounging in front of the tv after an op. Take time to recuperate and try not to do too much. Lots of TLC.

Yeah…. I just need to take it easy. I wasn’t expecting my throat to be sore either, it really hurts to swallow.

Sounds very normal. Can find it has a bit of a depressive effect too. At least three days for it to leave your system I think. If you're easily mobile I'd go with being as hydrated as possible can also help with opiate induced constipation - might just be me though. Very boring but hot honey and lemon for the throat, add ginger if you've been feeling any post op nausea.
