Any doctors around? Symptoms getting worse after antibiotics…

I don’t take antibiotics very often but have been given a course for tonsilitis/ strep A. It’s horrendously painful. I’ve got two tablets four times a day and have taken five doses so far, about to take my sixth.

I wasn’t expecting to start feeling better for 2-3 days especially as the pain is horrific but I’m actually feeling worse today. Instead of just hurting when I swallow the pain in my throat is now constant and my ear ache is getting worse.

yhe doctor had a good look in my throat and there weee white patches on my tonsils and my throat was red raw so she seemed confident in the diagnoses.

is it normal for symptoms to worsen after taking antibiotics, before they get better?

You should ring 111 for advice. If your throat is worse it needs checking that it hasn’t turned to quinsy and you may need different antibiotics.

If you’re only one day into a 5 day course I’d give it another 12 hours to see some improvement (not a dr but that’s the usual advice I’ve been given with strep). Hope you feel better soon.
