We are hoping to visit family in South Africa and then to head up to visit friends in Namibia and do a safari. Kids are keen to meet their SA cousins and to do the whole trip. While Easter seems the best time of year to visit (mostly because Cape Town is lovely and Namibia isn't unbearably hot), it means that DD will be away for 2 of her 3 weeks holiday. She's a moderately studious young person, and I'm wondering if this is a wise idea, or whether there'll be a big emphasis on end of year exams at that point. She's in Year 9 now, and it isn't an issue, but I know things ramp up, and she's at quite an academic school. The last thing I want is to book a holiday that's exciting for the rest of us, but that feels like a worry for her. We could equally go in July. But I've been to Cape Town in July and the city is not at its best, weather wise (not to mention having to wear thermals at night in the desert!). Any thoughts?
