Car that 17 y.o DS and me can share

DS will soon pass his test and I want him to have access to a car. My 12 y.o. Mercedes is an automatic and too expensive to put him on my insurance policy so I was planning on replacing it with a manual car that we can share.

Any ideas as to what car I should buy (will buy 2nd hand)? Needs to cheap enough to insure a 17 y.o new driver but be nice enough for me to drive as well!

I have a polo that's roomy and nice, I mean it's not a luxury car but it's pleasant enough to drive and reliable! Plus cheap on insurance

@Rebel2 good shout. Will look into that.

All 3 of my Sons drive( me around too) Ford Focus, Vauxhall Corsa eco boost and a VW Polo
All economical, comfortable and the Corsa, in Particular is very nippy for a small car

Good luck sharing a car with a 17yr old OP. You will be driving carfefully while he tears the streets up

I shared a VW UP! with DS when he first passed his test. It was pranged by an Uber driver and written off, but I miss that car!

I share a Toyota Aygo and it works for all of us.

I have a VW Up, brilliant little car, surprisingly roomy. He won't be able to burn it up too much because it has a 1l engine but the body is so light the engine is perfectly adequate for a sensible driver.

My children shared my Astra but now my DD (22) has a Corsa and I think its an awesome little car! We swopped cars in January and I had great fun in it. Not too pricey to insure either. She was going for something smaller but has to do a lot of motorway driving so I wanted something just a bit bulkier around her than a Fiat 500! She had a Clio before and that was a nippy little thing too

I'd look at Seat Ibiza or Ford Focus. An Ibiza is identical to a polo inside just a bit cheaper as it's not VW (all part of the same group though).

Check the insurance groups, dd had a Mazda 2
