Physical pelvic exam at the GP - what to expect? (Please answer!)

suffered SA as a child and do not like being touched down there at all with hands. I can’t even let DH and refused all checks when I was pregnant. However I’ve been having some trouble (spotting after exercise, cramping, pain during sex) and following a pelvic ultrasound that showed up nothing, my GP wants to perform a physical exam herself. It’s in 1 hour and I’m trying not to cancel but I’m absolutely beside myself with worry. How long does do they usually last! Is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable?

Can your DH go with you? And does the GP know your history and why this will be so difficult for you?

In terms of what to expect, they will be very gentle. Dep on your preference, you can either ask them to talk through everything they're doing, so you know what's coming and what to feel. Or, you may prefer to tune out and go to a happy place. Either approach will be fine with the GP. It won't be (physically) painful.

Good luck, and well done for facing it.
