Hi, sorry I’m not a mum but a frustrated dad, we gave booked a holiday, passed the pint of getting any money back, plan was to take our 3 children and partners, was going to be a celebration of GCSE’s and Uni graduation. Our son has just advised us his graduation is bang in the middle of the holiday despite us asking them for these dates before we booked. I think my son will stay home to graduate but we now feel shit. Are ee doing the right thing?

What does your son think? Has he said why he didn't tell you before? Did he mistake the dates or just not bother finding out?

If it's for this summer it seems pretty late for him to find out TBH, our kids were told around 6 months in advance, and graduation is/was always around the same time anyway, but obviously with covid things may have changed, and the unis are still playing catchup with graduations from previous years.

Universities vary in how far in advance graduation dates are published. So I’d give the benefit of the doubt to the son.

I would try really hard to move the holiday by a week or two so I could go to the graduation. It’s such an important moment to celebrate together.
