Diagnostic radiography apprenticeship

I'm looking for anyone who might have done this or similar (sonography etc).

What background did you come into it from? I am non clinical but keen to look at options.

How intense was the apprenticeship? What banding were you paid as a trainee?

Thank you!

Umm, there isn’t an apprenticeship approach to radiography any more - it’s all degree. you will need to decide it you want to be a diagnostic or therapeutic radiographer before you start but if you choose the diagnostic route you can further train to do sonography.

The closest thing you could get to an apprenticeship would be to take a job as an X-ray assistant in department. If you prove your worth, the department may sponsor you through a degree (brilliant as you get paid and will get extra pay if you continue to work in holidays/weekends).

It’s a three year full time BSc degree to get your basic qualification.

There are apprenticeships now but I am unsure if they have resolved some accreditation issues that could effect your employability.

Ignore me - a quick google brings up several apprenticeships with full accreditation equivalent to the bsc - when I looked last year some had dire warnings that you might not be that’s all.

The degree apprenticeships are quite new, so there might not be many people on here that have done one OP 😃

I did the old fashion degree and qualified in 2012

best of luck with your apprenticeship. I’d be very interested to hear how it’s run.

The Trust I work for offer a diagnostic radiography apprenticeship. As PP said there were some accreditation issues but these appear to have been resolved.

Thank you!!

My main concern is my lack of previous clinical experience. I have a degree but it is not science related in any way.

Clearly showing my age!! Was not aware of the apprenticeship schemes. Apologies.
