2 issues:

  1. friend’s birthday so myself and other friend agreed to buy a ticket and go halves on a show for friend’s birthday present.
Friend agreeing to go halves has just sent me the money for their own ticket alone.
    I have paid for two.

  2. out for a meal last night and cashier put both mine and friends in one bill as I was closest to the till, I put my card into the machine, and realised both meals on one.
friend said, I must give you the money for that.
    They haven’t.
I’ve paid for meal and drinks for two.

Awkward and very uncomfortable asking them for this money.
it equates to about £40 total.

How to ask for the money without looking like a twat?
Advice please..

Just text them your bank details and say it's easier if they just transfer the funds rather than messing about with cash.

IhearyouClemFandango · 29/03/2023 17:35

I'd just message them and say "hi Jane, your meal and half of the ticket came to £40. If you could send it to xyz that'd be great. Fun night! Cheers"

CornishTiger · 29/03/2023 17:35

Quite easy.

  1. Hi you seem to have only paid me x. It’s x amount I’m owed. Give calculation.
  2. Hi how do you want to pay me for last night? It’s x amount. PayPal me or bank transfer me and give details.
Onehappymam · 29/03/2023 17:39

‘You can either do a bank transfer or PayPal me the X you owe for Y and Z. What’s easiest for you? I’ll can send you my details.’

You won’t look like a twat.

They’ve made themselves look like a twat by being a CF.

They are relying on you being too nice to say anything, which is how CFs operate.

Mabelface · 29/03/2023 17:40

Hey marg, send us the 40 quid you owe me over please. Here's my bank details

Fluffymule · 29/03/2023 17:41

Text her — “Really enjoyed the other night. Before I forget, my bank details are X. Drop me a text back when you’ve transferred the £XX across so I know to look out for it. Thanks x “

WashAsDelicates · 29/03/2023 17:41

Don't ask, say. "Here are my back details so you can transfer me £XX for your half of Jane's birthday treat/your share of the meal at Restaurant"

Is it the same friend?

FinallyHere · 29/03/2023 17:47

No big deal.

"Thank you for sending the £x for your ticket. Please would you send me £x/2 for you half of friend's ticket. "

Keep it light, assume it's just slipped her mind.

Friend with two bills

Take a picture of her bill, email/text/WhatsApp it to her, saying here is your share. My account details are etc.

Again, no biggie.

FinallyHere · 29/03/2023 17:49

It's really not awkward and uncomfortable. It's a very gentle reminder of s trivial task which has slipped her mind.

Simples.

LonginesPrime · 29/03/2023 17:54

I think just send your payment details and the amount they owe you and ask that they please send it this week as you need it.

If you ask what's easier for them in terms of transferring it, it just gives them an opportunity to dodge the whole thing for longer and to frame it as an 'admin/logistics' thing as opposed to a 'they owe you money' thing.

How to ask for the money without looking like a twat?

Why does asking for money owed make you look like a twat?

I don’t get it….just send a message with bank details. There’s nothing to think about.

Is it the same friend in both instances?

In case 1, if you don’t get the money, make sure they don’t go to the show, simple as that.

I owe money to a friend who booked a spa trip. I was on holiday then she was, she said it wasn’t desperate. I messaged her as soon as she got home earlier this week, asking to confirm her bank details and amount (she hasn’t done yet, will remind her now).

Any friend baulking at money owed, is not a friend!

Mypatioisminging · 29/03/2023 18:32

Just text it, clear, concise, bank details, here’s the balance for lunch and rhe halfer on ticket xx

Wonnle · 29/03/2023 18:35

You seem to have not paid me the full amount owed , the balance is £xx

BestWorkOfArt · 29/03/2023 18:36

Just text. If anyone looks like a twat, it’s your friend. They know they owe you money. Don’t feel awkward, you’ve done nothing wrong.

EyesOnThePies · 29/03/2023 18:49

You won’t look like a twat, not at all!

TomatoSandwiches · 29/03/2023 18:52

They are the twat op, just send your details with the amount still owed and say what it's for with a thanks, they are taking the piss.

Rayn22 · 30/03/2023 08:15

Yeah I would send!
You ok to transfer me the money for the ticket and meal so I can pay it off my credit card. Thanks
