What books of a similar level to Dick King Smith, Roald Dahl?

I feel that DS has outgrown the Julia Donaldson, Shirley Hughes, Judith Kerr level of books. He can't read himself yet, but which books/authors should I be getting to read him now which are simple chapter stories?

All recommendations gratefully received!

Steve Cole has a lot of younger reader chapter books (think there’s a series about space penguins, some about dinosaurs in space too, all very silly).

the Toto the ninja cat books by Dermot o Leary

the worst witch series or Jeremy Strong fastest dog ones.

David Walliams and David Baddiel.

the Zoe Rescue Zoo books were popular with my dc.

Posted too soon! I’d recommend going to your local library and seeing what your dc likes the look of.

My dd LOVED the Dirty Bertie books. Can’t exactly recall if they are same level as Roald Dahl but very funny and would be fine for a boy or a girl

i also second pp suggestion of Jeremy Strong.

Dick K-S "Sophie" books - slim chapter books, are a bit more grown up than he animal books, and perfect for 5-8. The main protagonists is obviously a girl, but she has twin brothers!
