To be worried how much time I have had off?

I started a new job in February, second week of March I caught covid and had 5 days off with that, sunday I was admitted to hospital as I was very short of breath and had nebuliser when I got there, they was worried about a pulmonary embolism so kept me overnight to do more tests, I finally got discharged last night, with a lung infection which is pneumonia.
I have taken today off, to try and recovery. Family are saying given how breathless I still am I should stay off longer. But even though I'm still ill am going to try and go in tomorrow.
Being in my probation period, I'm really worried. Have I taken way to much time off?

Sounds like you need to be signed off.

Hopefully they'll understand given the circumstances.

I'm a worrier which isn't helping, I know I need to look after me first but I'm worried I am gonna be sacked!

You'll be worse off if you go back, can't manage and then need to go off again as it will likely count as another period of sick. I think you would be better off staying off until you actually are better but just keeping in contact with them and letting then know how you're getting on.

I work in a school so it's Easter holidays next week too.

Does the school still ask you not to come in if you test positive for covid? If that is the case, then they may record it separately and not as sickness.

@daisybrown37 no they asked for the first 3 days off but I was still feeling rough so had 5 days off in total.

If you have pneumonia you can't work.
