Mistake on passport application

I did my seven month old DDs passport application today as was doing older DDs as well, and I submitted it, paid and realised I'd put her birthday as the 22nd instead of the 28th. Google says it has to be amended in writing, anyone else done this before? If I try to call them will they help? Also it had been sent to my friend to verify, does she just go ahead and verify or leave it? Worried I'm about to lose £53 through being a total idiot....

Long story for mine but yes I've made a mistake on my application.
They are completely unhelpful over the phone (they wanted proof of the change when the proof they had was in their possession given they were the ones with my birth certificate).
So anyway.. I sent a handwritten letter to them. That seemed to do the trick.

I made a mistake on my child's details recently when applying online. Don't worry, it will get sorted.
Your friend needs to chose the option of incorrect details when they verify it. You'll then be contacted for more information.
I would also ring the helpline, I spoke to someone and they were very helpful.

Also, you won't need to pay again to sort it, or at last I didn't, and I hadn't even realised I'd made a mistake until it came to having the details verified.

Thanks both, that's a relief

I also did this accidentally for an online renewal and had to get my friend to verify the details with the wrong date of birth as there was no option to change it. I then included a printed letter explaining what had happened when I sent off the paperwork (in my case the previous passport) It went through absolutely fine, I didn’t need to call them up and it didn’t take noticeably longer than normal - it was back within a week or so. Don’t worry!

Just in case anyone else has done this - I made an error in my DOB when applying for my son, so when someone went to verify details were incorrect.
Spoke to passport office helpline, very helpful, said advise verifying person to tick correct details even though they aren't, then when send in old passport include covering letter saying there has been an error and including correct details. So same advice as above, correct as of April 2025

Hi, did you receive your passport without any issues after this??
