Redundancy Crossroads

I'm wondering if anyone would share what they did when changing career or leaving a long term employer through redundancy?

If I'm granted redundancy, the money, added to some savings, will tide me over for about 12 months, so not enough time to go to uni or retrain over a long period. Although, having tired uni before, I know it's not for me!

Interested to hear others experiences of taking redundancy and changing direction.

Thanks

In a similar position myself OP!

No idea what to do with myself really.... most likely fall back into a job that I just happen to get rather then something I want. ☹️

I was an office manager at John Lewis for over 10 years ago got made redundant about 18 months ago. At the age of 51 I was super stressed as thought I would really struggle getting a decent role. I actually found there was lots of demands for my skills and experience and had lots of offers from nhs, Universities and civil service. I now have an amazing job, which pays a lot more than I was previously on and really enjoy. There is hope out there.

Hi, and sorry for late reply!

@princesssparklepants it feels like such a risk, but at the same time I known I can't do my current job forever and this is perhaps the push I need.

Glad to hear that it worked out so well for you @FitAt50. I'm torn between going back to admin type work and taking a pay cut, or trying something completely new and taking a pay cut. Worried I try something new and hate it too! But my admin skills need a definite refresh if I was to go back to that. So I can't see it working out as well as your situation financially, but I need something else for my own sanity.
