My dc have a week off school he first week of May & I thought it may be cheaper to go away then rather than the summer.. I don't want the canaries.. How would Greece be?

Not guaranteed but should be ok. Some resorts might not be fully open. Crete and Cyprus possibly best bets. I would go to southern Spain, pretty much guaranteed there.

Malta? Madeira?

You could chance Spain or Portugal - we did last week of April, 1st week of May once and the first week was awful, 2nd week was boiling so it can change very quickly.

Greek Islands would be lovely! Turkey, South of Spain, Egypt

Assume you're thinking swimsuit and pool/beach warm?

Mommymoments · 27/03/2023 12:38

Yes, would love to sunbathe & have a nice pool for the girls. Turkey is a good suggestion!

Usually Greece would be fairly sunny (unless unlucky) and warm but not sunbathing warm. Sea will be cold. Unheated pools will be cold. Crete is probably the warmest option in Greece at that time, maybe Rhodes or Kos. As pp say the season is just starting then.

Of course weather has been all over the place in recent years, you might well get a heatwave!

Cyprus or Turkey would be more reliably warm based on usual patterns.

Malta.

Thanks so much for the suggestions!

Depends on budget really.

Caribbean - prices start from about £1600 pp All Inc.
Cape Verde - prices from about £1200 pp All Inc
Morocco - prices from £600 pp All Inc

These prices are based on 10 nights, all inclusive.

We were in Morocco in January. It was sunbathing weather even then. And it is gorgeous and clean. Staff cannot do enough for you.

Canaries - yeah, a bit hit and miss.

Turkey - particularly Olu Deniz. As it is protected by Babadag (mountain) it is usually warmer here than elsewhere and, although the pools are cold, the sea in the blue lagoon generally warms up more quickly. It is also a very safe place.
I am going in the middle of April and am expecting temps mid 20s for most of the day but a bit cooler at night.

Look at Dalyan in Turkey. River town & you get the boat to the beach. It's a fab place and the weather should be lovely.

We went to Greece (Corfu) some years back first week of May and were unlucky - colder than the UK and drizzled. The place we stayed wasn’t particularly open (cafes and restaurants still closed for the season) and the beach hadn’t been cleaned over winter. Towards the end the sun did come out and the municipality cleaned up the beach so I guess it depends on how lucky you are!
