I have to give up tea, coffee and chocolate. it's my guilty pleasure. I don't drink or smoke. please give me suggestions for a suitable substitute treat/comfort 😭

I'm skint, so it can't cost too much...also SP so I can't go out and do it

Is it the caffeine in chocolate that you can’t have, not the sugar/fat? If so, baking and eating delicious cakes and puddings surely!

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/03/2023 10:42

Mine is cheese…

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/03/2023 10:43

Oh, and reruns of Miami Vice (show from the 80s if you are a young thing, lol - I missed it first time round too but am hooked now!)

WhisperingAutistic · 27/03/2023 10:46

Do you have acid reflux or gastritis?
I too cannot have tea, coffee, chocolate or alcohol 😔
I've yet to find a decent treat to be honest. I'm partial to fizzy sweets though and sometimes have a large bag of those to myself.

BadForBusiness · 27/03/2023 10:46

Homemade cake. Listening to Cabin Pressure for the umpteenth time. My unreasonably large fruit tea collection. Georgette Heyer rereads.

MarmaladeFatkins · 27/03/2023 10:48

OOoo...cheese and crackers! that is an excellent idea...with grapes. I could definitely get with that

chronic iron deficiency and tannin/caffeine prohibits uptake. also high blood pressure/need to lose weight so can get in HRT ☹️

@BadForBusiness I don't like fruit tea mostly....I like hibiscus, lemon &ginger, mint, chamomile. so I'm good for a hot drink. but it's not a treat really, for me

Carrot juice, or if you're really going to walk on the wild side, clamato juice!

Using fresh mint in a teapot makes it more of a treat if you have a garden pot you can plant it in.

Are you allowed to have Decaf coffee? If so, and on a budget I found the Aldi tin of decaff fine. There are lots on the market besides that one.

Home made scones. Look up lemonade scones. Three ingredients and they are fab. Cheese scones the same, nice for a treat and the aroma when baking in the oven is lovely.

Sparkling water (Aldi again!) with some elderflower or other cordial is very nice and "grown up".

frozendaisy · 27/03/2023 10:55

Decaffeinated black tea, make Indian chai with milk and spices, you can add honey or vanilla for sweetness.

frozendaisy · 27/03/2023 10:55

Sorry if you can't have any black tea miss that bit out ....

Greensleevevssnotnose · 27/03/2023 10:57

By BMI is sadly 41 and I am in HRT, I don't think there are weight restrictions

Badger1970 · 27/03/2023 10:59

I'd get in some really nice toiletries and have a long soak in the bath. Get some body scrub for good measure. Follow up with some wild nail varnish for your toe nails. It will encourage you to feel better about your body too if you're trying to lose weight. And if you're going all in, a good book to read while you're soaking!

I'm diabetic and all my treats have to avoid food, and I don't drink either.

MarmaladeFatkins · 31/03/2023 17:25

thank you. first of all I screwed up my nose at these alternatives, but actually...I am coming round..there are quite a lot of toiletry type things that I want but don't buy because 'its a waste of money'...and smelly candles. and I bought myself flowers yesterday 😊

sorry, I didn't explain that well did I. I have high blood pressure so can't take HRT.....the hope is that if I lose weight, then my blood pressure will normalise

Mine would be cheese, or muffin's and cheese cake

Hot chocolate made with sucralose rather than sugar? Sugar free jelly and squirty cream?

Theee are some low cal ice creams around too - chuck in some berries and you have a trifle sort of

Toffee - takes a long time to chew.

NeonBoomerang · 31/03/2023 17:37

Have you thought about trying crack?

dramalamma · 31/03/2023 17:38

I drink rooibos tea with milk which is decaf and tannin free (I'm 99% sure) - it takes a little while to get used to but I genuinely can't drink black tea anymore and my tea craving is fully sated!!

I don't like milk. I always drink black tea. I'm not a big fan of redbush any more though
