Why are you awake?

It's been a while since I've seen one of these threads (I've maybe just missed them of course).

So why are you awake and what are you doing?

As I write this it's around 4.30am and I have Covid for the second time. I've been ill since Thursday and just thought it was a bad cold until we found some old (still in date) tests at home and I thought I would take one to see as I couldn't smell Vaporub at all and I've been incredibly hungry today which I don't usually have during a cold, but I was like that when I had Covid last year. I can smell other things fine, it's just Vaporub that smells like nothing.

I fell asleep on the sofa yesterday afternoon then went to bed and snoozed from around 5-8.30pm and I've been wide awake since then. I can't breathe very well right now which means I can't get to sleep so I'm sitting in bed with a hot drink and bingewatching Bridge of Lies on iplayer. Random I know.

Hope you feel better soon, OP.

I've been in A&E with my Dad for almost 12 hours. He's got sepsis from a UTI. Waiting to moved to a ward. I should probably go home for a couple of hours but he's deaf and can't understand what the staff are saying behind their masks.
Plus, I also lost my lovely DM to sepsis four years ago, so it's all a bit triggering and doubt I'd sleep for worrying.

Tarkan · 27/03/2023 04:55

Oh I'm so sorry @Crazyandthat - I hope he's feeling better soon and you can get some rest soon too. Flowers

It's 7 am here and we'll leave the house when my daughter has cleaned her teeth

bluebottle23 · 27/03/2023 05:17

@Crazyandthat so sorry for what you're going through. Sending love and hugs xxxx

Photosymphysis · 27/03/2023 05:27

Sending love for @Crazyandthat

Puts my fury into perspective.

I've got a poorly 6yo. I couldn't sleep about 3ish. But went back to sleep. Just in time to be up changing his sheets at 3:45.

At 4:45 he came into our bed. I gave up with my tiny sliver of bed and came down to the sofa but the cat has been hooking around.

I've given up. I've got to get up and go to work in a few mins anyway.

Who needs sleep.

GoodnightJude1 · 27/03/2023 05:30

@Crazyandthat how awful for you 😢 I hope your dad is feeling better soon 💐

I’ve been awake since 4am as DH decided he was too hot last night when he came up to bed and opened ALL of our bedroom windows. I woke up at 4am absolutely freezing so jumped in a hot shower (to defrost) then came downstairs to drink tea (and carry on defrosting) 🥶

RicchT · 27/03/2023 05:35

Sorry to hear you have covid again op and hugs to you @Crazyandthat

I am just a big ball of anxiety. It’s worse than that- it is torture. That’s really the only way I can describe it.

I have a severe anxiety disorder and lots of other issues.
Battle it privately most of the time- therapy didn’t help, medication makes me feel dreadful and so here we are.

Stick around because of my children and husband but it really is no way to live. My husband is lovely but doesn’t really get it .

Hence why I am awake . It is like this every night.

Hugs to all 💐💕

I’ve been awake since 3. I’ve been really affected by insomnia throughout this pregnancy, it seems to follow the same pattern of going to sleep ‘normally’ and then waking at 1/2/3 and only drifting back off at 4/5. Then DS often wakes at 530ish. He also woke at 330 wanting an ‘Arry’ (carry) persuaded him to go back to sleep but then he woke crying at 4, and he’s hot. Sigh. Calpol and hoping he sleeps a bit longer than normal.

It’s getting me down a bit. Dithering about whether to just call in sick to be honest.

Tarkan · 27/03/2023 05:38

Hope your DS is feeling better soon @Photosymphysis

I hope you warm up soon @GoodnightJude1 - I've been thankful that DH has been sleeping in the living room while I've been ill so I can have the room temperature perfect for me without him moaning about it.

I do have my own little nurse on the bed looking after me though. This is Tarkan (the reason for my username). He's enjoying the huge amount of space on the bed for him while DH has been in the living room. Grin

I'm going to work. I live on the opposite side of the city and it involves a complicated commute.

I also didn't sleep well last night. Lots of worries.

Tarkan · 27/03/2023 05:43

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggle with anxiety @RicchT it's a really horrible thing. Flowers

My youngest child is 15 and has struggled badly since they started secondary school. We've been waiting for an ASD diagnosis for almost 2 years now but they were diagnosed with anxiety last year as well so they're having weekly therapy for that at the moment which helps but only a small amount. Every day is a struggle for them and they barely attend school right now but we're doing everything we can to support them.

Insomnia sucks @Tietheapron - how far along are you? I'll hope for a nice settled baby for you when they arrive and hope the insomnia goes away soon for you too.

@JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg - I hope the worries will be resolved easily for you. I did realise not long after posting that people would probably be starting to wake up for their work day/commute soon enough. I'm lucky and never normally up before 7.30/8 so this still feels like the middle of the night for me. Blush

I woke up because I was so bunged up with cold I couldn’t breathe, and then blew my nose to a nosebleed, so it’s all pretty revolting.

@Crazyandthat , I hope your Dad is okay.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 27/03/2023 05:49

My dog feels like 4:43 (on the dot!) is time to get up 😭. Luckily, he hasn’t realised the clocks have gone forward (yet) and let me “lie in” til 5:43.

Lesvacances · 27/03/2023 05:53

I was having a horrible dream, a mouse was nibbling my head and I couldn’t get it to stop.
It woke me up and I keep scratching my head and feel a bit jumpy!

@Crazyandthat hope your df gets on a ward soon and you can get some rest.

My df fell last week, he’s 92 and still living on his own but he really needs more help. He’s so stubborn though.

halfpasteleven · 27/03/2023 05:55

I woke up at 4.30 and can't get back to sleep...usually a read of some threads on here would help me drift off but not tonight

wishuponastar1988 · 27/03/2023 05:57

I've been on and off all night. Baby didn't sleep well plus it's my first day back at work after maternity leave and I am dreading it. Don't want to leave my baby and feel very anxious about it

I am sure it will be fine, but it is very hard, end of an era in many ways.

I've been awake since 4. My two year old son has a bag cough and has been banging his head against the headboard of his toddler bed. He does this for comfort. Makes a hell of a facket sometimes! He has lots of cushions and pillows on there but keeps moving them to find the headboard. Gave up at 6 and we're now downstairs watching "The Land before Time"

OverHereTryingToFigureItOut · 27/03/2023 06:29

Both DC came up to our bed at 11pm upset after we were all woken by next door's dog having a mad moment (not complaining about the dog, we rarely hear it). DH admitted defeat and went down to DS's bed.

I was woken up at 3:45 by DS's elbow in my face and haven't managed to get back to sleep. Bought a couple of bits on Vinted using my balance, been playing Words with Friends, and read some of my book. I'll need a nap later - fortunately I don't have a very busy day.
